Can't close the cooking recipes tracking?
Am I missing something or can you not disable the tracking of recipes? I'm trying to track other things but I can't because all of these cooking recipes are being tracked.

(I guess it is kind of buried.) Go to the pause menu (hit Esc), then Collection, then Recipes . Scroll down to the Cooking Recipes section, and click on the recipe to start or stop tracking. Check or uncheck "Track crafting materials" and press OK. (Recipes you haven't cooked ever have a brown background. Recipes you're tracking also show a little target icon.)

Just go to the cooking station and click the recipe, that's it. If you click it once and highlight it and see the extra info, that literally is when it starts tracking it. If you click it the second time, you untrack it.

Or do the collection tracking variant, which is more bothersome.

I tried this multiple times before looking it up and ending up here. At least for me, this method does not work.

So you can't track anything? Even with a controller?

you can track from the collection->recipes screen. Yes, it would be nice to allow tracking from the cooking screen.

You can iirc, it just doesn`t give feedback untill you close this screen. It also may require some specific key/combo, which is hard to learn/remember for the same reason of feedback lacking.

You can only track not completed recipes, you can't track completed recipes (smiley face next to it). Visual feedback is instant, and no need to close anything.
Simple as just clicking on it, or with a controller selecting it and hitting A/Cross.

If for some reason you can't still track from the cooking station, either you have some overlay issues, double input, or you're trying to track a recipe that's already completed.

I made a fresh save just to show it. The coop save I have, I've learnt already all of 'em, so can't track anything.

Guess there is some kind of technical issue for some of us then.

In my case a second click with LMB collapses recipe without removing the tracker.
I can however expand the recipe with LMB and then click SPACE. That doesn`t produce any visible change, but tracker is removed once i exit that screen. Repeating that action will add the tracker back.

If using a Xbox controller select the recipe (A) while it is open (red) press (X). This will toggle the tracking on/off. As said above there is no indication until you exit back into the game.

<space> worked for me, but it gives a sound like it tried to add an ingredient, making me think nothing was happening. I think it needs to visually update that cross-hair to show it's being tracked.

Sounds like it's borked for all of you.
For me it's just left click on it, and it will toggle on and off instantly, like in the images above.
The same with controller I just push confirm button to toggle if I wanna track the non completed recipe or not.
All of that exactly the same way in every place where you can see stuff that you can track.

The recipe box gets bigger and a crosshair appears when you start tracking it.
When you toggle it again, the box goes smaller and the crosshair disappears.

If the recipe was already completed, then you can't track it anymore, nor you should be able.

For safety sake, just make a new save and check if it works in the same way there, otherwise sounds like your saves are borked.

The cross hair literally means it's being tracked. If there is no cross hair, it ain't been tracked. That's the toggle, visually, instantly.

That IS what happens -- the box just expands and shrinks visually, crosshair appears and disappears. But the tracker doesn`t actually change. New game or not, nothing to do with saves.

Like I said one post before, then it's borked for you all.
Happy I haven't encountered it.

I want to clarify. You are saying that if there is a cooking recipe being tracked on the game screen and you open the cooking recipe the tracked ones are shown expanded (Red State) and all you do is left click them to turn them back small (white State) and that alone removes them from the game screen? It makes perfect sense to me it should work that way. I just want to make sure we are are the same page.
