How many people can play in a Co-Op game.

2, and it's couch co-op unless you use something like parsec to couch co-op long distance

Thx for the local coop option. But how does it work exactly for the second player? His/her character/progress gets saved as well? Some other local coop games don't save the second player's progress, hence the question.

The other player has a separate HP bar, but uses player one's progression. You also have a shared backpack. What this means is that if player 1 has unlocked, say, machete and baseball bat, the coop partner is also able to equip them. Both players have separate equipped items though, so both are able to wear whatever they please.

if i get to a place that player one has acces to and i log there , and then start my game will i be safed theer and starts there or will i be put back to my own place ??

The coop partner will immediately spawn next to player one upon coop starting.

No what i meant was if i am in a coop game , and followed player one to a arreya he has acces to , and then i leave will it safe me there ,so that if i my own game again or do i spawn in where i have last played in my game .

also is teh stash chest also shared can i take stuff out of player one his chest and take it to my game , or do i start with my own stuff again.

The game will always use player one's save, where the coop partner is merely a guest that has access to the save's crafted items and materials.

wait, so if I play the game with a friend who joins me, takes equipment and then logs off at some point... is that equipment lost to the void?

Nope, you can both wear the same hat or the same tool. You just both have access to it. Nothing can be lost.
