Cannot get past "Moss- Now Loading" screen. Startup settings?

Greetings all.
Valve Index
Intel 11700K
RTX 3090 - nvidia 466.63

Did a fresh install of the operating system, and have completed all Windows updates.

EVERY game is running fine except for Moss.

-I've tried reinstalling 3x.
-I've tried launching from Steam VR "wall", as well as the "desktop" within the VR environment. I have also tried launching from desktop.
-Verified Integrity of local games
-All Valve index components and software up-to-date.


What I have not done, is try to change any of the headset settings. I run everything at 120Hz, but that is the only setting I have altered to my knowledge. I'd really like to play this game, but am at a complete loss on what other steps to take.

i know what steam says, but is anyone on the index actually playing?

The game loaded once for me. This was back in January. As it was running, I took the headset off so I could run an internet search for which button should be used to recenter the gaming area. No problems.

However, I turned it off shortly after that. Ever since I then, my game always hangs at the "Up Next" Screen in the Index display. If i remove the headset and look at my monitor, the Icon for Moss is not blue "Playing" but the green "Play" one.

Sorry to hear youre having troubles as well kantofox. If I find a fix, I will post it.

Yes, the game works well with the index valve and my old PC! I also just changed my PC for an i7 11700 and an RTX 3070ti and MOSS is the only game that doesn't start anymore !! Please help us !!

I have Valve Index, RTX 3070, AMD 5800X, Windows 10, latest drivers. No other problems with vr games. I managed to start the game at some point by unplugging my USB headset and webcam. At least I think that was what helped. Now it's refusing again to run. Lost a couple of hours trying to fix it.

I had no problems starting it on my old setup: GeForce 970, i7 3770, Windows 10, Valve Index.

I actually finished the game. I gave up trying to troubleshoot the issue. What I did instead was that I tried every day to start the game. On the sixth or seventh day it just worked and I completed the game on the spot. Lucky for me it was a Sunday.

I just pressed Play directly from Steam, without starting first my VR setup and it worked. In the previous days it immediately crashed.

I have same issue with an HP Omen 30L I7 11700 and RTX3090 and a Reverb G2!
Before the change i worked fine with an old GTX970...
Any solution here?!

Same problem here I7 and 3070. Moss dev do not answer on facebook or mail.

FWIW, i'm also on an i7 and 3070. it's very strange to me that i we can't find an answer out there somewhere, as it seems it's not just an isolated incident.

I have the same problem, I7 11700, RTX 3080 and 3080ti. And the same with the following games: Off-Road Paradise: Trial 4x4 VR, Westworld Awakening VR, Motorbike VR, Hellblade VR. My laptop, I5, RTX 3060, runs all these games.

Since most here have an I7 11700 and Moss won't start, maybe that's the cause?

aha! finally found something when i added the cpu version to my search (good call @GEdampft)! apparently it's a problem with the Unreal Engine version that the game is using having a dependency on something in OpenSSL that has since been fixed. you need to add an environment variable to your computer and reboot. details here:
