alright y'all i am having some.... real difficulty with this

I've captured the cow and it's somehow (?) in the area just north of the house through the forest! The only unsolved mysteries I can think of are the locked houses, but I cannot think of how to get keys to them and I'm not sure that they're actually important.

Also there's a stump in this area that seems out of place but there's no reaction so

there are footsteps on the other side but....

help please? maybe i'm just dumb

I will give you a hint. The cow is not the specimen. Try to notice what happens when the cow moves from the backyard.
