Good lord. I think I just wet myself, just thinking of that.
I've contacted some of the original authors of the Gold Box games, trying to find original code (to release as open source) or purchase/obtain the original IP myself but came to a dead end. SSI got bought out Mindscape then got absorbed by Mattel and finally Ubisoft. My trail ran cold at Ubisoft who had no idea where the original code went.
In 2013 the International Centre for the History of Computer Games (ICHEG) was donated documents, games and source code to Jon-Paul Dyson but I dont' know if that included the gold box game code or not or what's become of it.
Frankly if someone were to make it available or get a project started (or allow me to start one) I would totally be on board.
1. Wizard's Crown (and its sequel, Eternal Dagger)
2. Phantasie series (1, 2, and 3)
3. Legacy of the Ancients
4. Realms of Darkness
5. Shard of Spring (and the sequel, Demon's Winter)
6. SSI Gold Box series (all of them, including Buck Rogers)
7. Dragon Wars
8. Moebius (the one from Origin Systems)
9. Autoduel (also from Origin)
10. Roadwar 2000 (and its sequel, Roadwar Europa)
Bring the graphics up to the level of early 2000's for example.
Yeah, I'll definitely reach out to them once we know we have some spare bandwidth. We're pretty busy till at least the start of 2019.
