Minimap rotation and fixed "North is up" - not a bug!
Hi all,

As there are multiple threads on this, making a quick sticky!
The changes to the minimap to not be "north is up" when in dungeons, or in Skara Brae at night, is deliberate.

This is to make sure that the various spells in the original games that had to do with informing you where you are, what direction you are facing and what-not, still have value in the remaster with automapping.

So - to stop being disorientated, use the spell "Compass"!

We are looking in to what we can add to the UI to make this more clear, in a patch.

Cheers!
Linds

didn't have map rotation till levelled up, and it was dusk. was very confusing till i worked it out, then spent the night in the adventurers guild and map rotation switched off!

I suppose you could argue that you can use the stars to gauge your orientation at night -- but to the contrary you could argue that being encased in winter, the sky is too clouded and stars aren't visible :)

there is a case to be made to leave this map rotation thing to only dungeons. Lets see how it floats once we give the players better feedback of what is going on.

I understand why you'd wish to keep certain navigation spells etc from being redundant in the game, but in my personal opinion I'd say keep the mini map working as expected throughout the game, as legacy mode offers the more original gaming experience. I am a lover of the original game back in the 80's and burned many a pint of midnight oil dungeon delving and mapping, but I also remember playing Might And Magic on the Mega Drive years later and loving the mapping feature.
When the map freaks out at night I find it very disorientating and feel you may as well disable the map altogether for those times. And to be fair all I have to do is quickly look at the map on the journal page to see which way I am facing etc.
I say have the map as fully working for those who want to use it, sort of like the assistance you get in modern flight Sims that can be optionally turned off, such as infinite ammo, assisted engine etc. Or at least like you say in dungeons only would be better. :)

I hope you bring back the stable mapping feature. There is always the legacy mode for folks who want to experience the more challenging aspect of being totally lost. :)

Bug: I used Apport Arcane to skip Harkyn's Castle level 2 entirely but the map didn't anticipate that, as I cannot go down a map level in the map window if I'm on level 3, and I can't go up a map level from level 1 even though I've been to 3 and have it partially mapped out. The effect of this bug is you cannot use Apport Arcane from within the map window to teleport up/down from 1 to 3 or vice versa if you never stepped foot into 2. You can still manually APAR out of level 3 by manually inputting coords.
