Galaxy Champions TV is easy to recommend - it has meaty gunplay, a small price tag, and fun arcade gameplay. While it doesn't do anything new, it succeeds nicely at using a tried-and-true formula that makes for a neat little Leaderboards score-chaser. There are various difficulty modes, and even a Daily Challenge. I was also pleased to see a nice amount of options including the abilty to reduce screen shake. Well done.

A twinstick shooter reminiscent of the good ol' days of Smash TV. Feeling much like a score chaser; sessions will be short but in constant action. There are only three stages each with 6 rooms so it is a rather short experience but it is still all around fun. Like some arcade games it can get repetitive but it's great for those just one more time sessions. Players can also enjoy daily challenges.

Constant movement in shooting is what you are looking at here. The gameplay is challenging since you have to avoid incoming enemy shots and the enemies themselves as they flood the room. Each time you level up you get to choose between three new perks which can enhance your abilities, weapons, or drops. All the hitboxes and detection boxes feel really smooth. If you die; despite how hard it may be to tell what you hit sometimes due to all the chaos, you can pretty well justify the player at fault and not the mechanics.

The chaos can be a bit crazy visually but everything runs smoothly. The devs took things into consideration such as screenshake tweaking as well to make it a more player adjusted experience. The music is fitting enough and okay; but after so many runs I ended up listening to my own music while playing.

This title keeps in the safe zone not playing with the mechanics of twin sticks too much. The content that is available albeit a bit short is fun, worthwhile, and well worth the asking price. If you enjoy twinstick shooters in a arcade like fashion much like Smash TV or Total Carnage go ahead and pick it up.

Relatively small in scope, but a load of fun to play! The shear volume of enemy mobs with all their contrasting effects can pose a serious challenge, despite how powerful the weapons make you feel. The upgraded Laser is probably the most hardcore laser effect I have seen outside a Japanese Shmup! But I would have to go the machine gun or flamethrower get me out of those tight predicaments as they are simply epic.. Stay on your Toes!

Challenging, frantically paced, pixelized, overhead arcade twin-stick shooter channeling Smash TV minus the humor. Great fun in small doses. I recommend it for those who can stomach its high difficulty and incessant screen shaking (no option to disable or turn down screen shaking), IF playing with a controller.

But imho I can’t recommend Galaxy Champions TV to keyboard/mouse players due to the decision to NOT support mouse aiming and to limit keyboard players to 4 cardinal firing directions. To me, that makes it a different and much lesser gameplay experience on keyboard. The dev explained their reasoning to me, which seems to be that it would give kb/m players an unfair leaderboard advantage and/or make the game too easy. I don’t agree. GC TV is tough and fast paced, and having a mouse and a floating crosshair wouldn’t imho make it too easy because the game doesn’t give you any time to aim at anything with precision, no matter the control method. :-) Limiting keyboard players to firing in 4 directions in this just seems un-fun, and probably it hurt the game’s chance to appeal to the kb/m player set.

The game has a series of planets, and each planet consists of six connected arenas, culminating with a boss battle. You’ll battle it out with swarms of colorful enemies. They’ll pop out from entry doors on all four arena sides. They fill the screen often. Don’t plan to think tactically. The game gives you no time. :)

One unique feature for this genre is the ability to dash out of trouble, which is done on controller using a trigger button. This will be your friend, and you’ll often need to dash to survive an arena.

Similar to in 10Tons’ Crimsonland, you’ll constantly run over and automatically pick up different weapons and sometimes special items (drones, shields etc.) in the course of your arena battle. So you’ll generally always be using a variety of different weapons (machine gun, laser, shotgun, grenade launcher etc.) during the arena battle.

After completion of an arena battle, you’ll usually get an option to purchase one of three items. These may result in things like weapon pickups being being more powerful or having more ammo, or some additional pickup items that become available like a friendly drone or passive shield, to name a few examples.

Complete 5 arenas on a planet, and then the 6th arena throws a massive boss at you that can fire massive weaponry that fills the screen with projectiles. I’ll confess that I’m not very good at Galaxy Champions TV, so I have only battled the first boss. Which is a pain. :-)

I found the game’s sound effects for weapons and its catchy music very much appealing. I’ve played much more expensive games that didn’t have weapon sound effects this good.

So overall I give it a conditional recommendation. If you like using a controller to play arcade twin-stick shooters with a high difficulty curve, that you can enjoy in short periods of time, then I do recommend Galaxy Champions TV to you.

If you’re a mouse/keyboard player, or if screen shaking in games bother you, then I can’t recommend it. The devs went silent on the forums months ago, and so I suspect they will not be changing keyboard mode to a proper keyboard/mouse mode as most twin stick shooters have, nor do I expect they’ll add a screenshake slider or option to disable that effect.

If you’re a keyboard/mouse player looking for a game in this arcade twin-stick Robotron-ish genre with more ambitious arena design and boss designs, I highly recommend Chrome Breakers instead, but do remember to enable its final 4.0 beta update -- that finally added in proper kb/m gameplay support. Chrome Breakers also plays fairly well on controller, although its controller support is fairly generic (x-input).

A game update added a more traditional keyboard/mouse aiming scheme with an "always on" crosshair, and you can enable the Mouse for aiming. :) If you want this, be sure to enable BOTH the Keyboad and Mouse option in the Options menu.

Super fun top-down/Twin stick shooter, clear through rooms upgrading your weapons until you have high powered lasers maxed out shotguns and nukes going off. Enjoyed working my way through the achievements and would recommend to anyone that likes simple but addictive games, especially twin stick fans.

Boss fights are fun with bullethell elements, Co-op and Leaderboard support here as well, i don't know why steam still considers this game profile feature limited. But none the less you can't go wrong here.

At AU$9.95, Galaxy Champions TV is worth the price - but is noticeably overshadowed by it's predecessor Super Smash T.V.

The planets (levels) and upgrades are fun, but there is only 3 of the former and not a huge variety of enemies nor bosses. Late-game gameplay feels like you're just spamming forward towards one Loot Bot onto the to the next. Also absent is any of the humour of the Williams Entertainment classic - which, withstanding Galaxy Champions TV is it's own game, would be okay if it was substituted with something else that connects you to the world other than the solid gun play.

Some minor additions, like looping in the 'Campaign' mode and other novelties would not go astray to keep my attention.

Solid game, but needs more content and to reduce the bullet spam scaling.

Galaxy Champions TV is a must buy if you liked Super Smash TV on the SNES.

Reluctant thumbs down for me. The gameplay is great and fun, but it has some significant pain points:

1- Scoring is achieved by collecting shiny white orbs that drop from enemies, and BY THE HOLY LORD do they drop a lot of orbs! Your screen will be absolutely littered with them at later levels, making figuring out what is going on in the screen 3x as hard as it should be. I don't give a rat's ass about leaderboards and highscores, I'd much rather be able to disable the orbs completely in order to see clearly, but there is no option for this!
1.1- The default screen shake is also atrocious and makes you feel like you're a myopic playing the game without glasses on, but at least that one can be toned down or disabled.

2- There is so much stuff in the screen at once that you constantly get hit by things you couldn't really see coming. Being successful in this game feels more like randomness, and a product of the copious amounts of heart pickups dropped by enemies, than skill. I think the devs know this, which is why the enemies drop so many hearts in the first place: you simply will get hit all the time, a lot, for no fault of your own, so the hearts are the only thing making this game viable.

3- Weapons drop very often, and the last weapon collected replaces the one you currently have, with no way to revert the operation. To make matters worse, the pickup radius is huge. If two weapons drop close to each other, you have little control with which one you will end up. Just got that laser you spent 4 upgrades making absolutely overpowered? Too bad, here's a machinegun to replace it, which you didn't even see being dropped by the enemy beside you.

4- There is very little content: only 4 maps, with each map taking 5-10 minutes to do. I was able to beat the game on Normal difficulty on my second try in under 1 hour of playtime. I predict it will get repetitive and stale really fast. I don't plan on trying to beat it on Hard.

The only reason I won't refund this game is because the 1-hour of fun (limited, though, by the pain points above) I had is worth the 1 dollar spent with the game on 80% discount.

I played the beta for about 8 hours - it was pretty stable even in early stage.
Definitely worth the price tag.


Nice music, intuitive, fun and challenging gameplay.

Fun little Smash TV like game. Kinda short lived though...4 worlds with 5 levels each plus a boss level for each world. Its over kinda fast.
