You can find the traders or buildings at the mailbox, you can build a mail box at a workbench
I know it can be frustrating when you can't figure out something like this, as this happens to me all the time also. I had to force myself to just slow down and enjoy the game.
Very good advise, now I am bored because I did everything asap. Suggestion to those who plan to play long, don't buy prefab buildings from mailbox, build your own and buy the vendor instead. You'll enjoy longer. If you play multiplayer, build near others and do trading with Player Shop. It's nearest thing to player economy at this point. But be aware, I don't know why but I lost my things in Player Shop, it was empty and no money after +24 hours not logging in. Probably broken.
then look at stable guy, and press E, your character will point at the stable guy and a menu will pop up asking you to confirm sell this horse for xxx.xx. 100 for mustangs, and 75 for quarter-horses.
once u have a horse, catch more from horseback.
Note: R Click aim, while spinning lasso over head does NOT work on horseback.
aim top of back above shoulders, L Click to throw lasso.
sometimes character doesnt throw lasso or seem to coil it back up again.
if not working, put away lasso and take out again.
same deal as lasso on foot to catch the horse. theyll follow you.
you can put the lasso away and arm a weapon as you may come across bears or wolves etc. on the way to stable or wherever.
you can gallop away or engage kill threats, horse/s will still follow.
*Dont sell the horse your riding or youre walking again, lol.
Ive caught and had follow 3-4 horses at a time, its not easy though, they get caught up on everything..rocks, trees, you cant gallop the whole way to stables, look back often and steer them around obstacles, an git that money.
---------------------------------
If youre in SP, you are the admin. first thing I do is build a town using codes not mailbox-money for the buildings.
of course u can also cheat goldbars, and cash them at the gold exchange to buy these buildings from the mailbox, but I just cheat the buidlings, make a town to ride into for supplies..ammo, guns, clothes, and sell things you can.
you can build a gun shop or whatever you want, logs, planks, or brick, and just buy the Ai merchant and place them inside. alot of good things for your own building in the blueprints, and signs.
*gold exchange- summonItem OI_GoldExchangeVendor 1
*gun shop- summonItem OI_GunShop 1
*tailor- summonItem OI_Tailor 1
*stable- summonItem OI_Stable 1
*hotel- summonItem OI_Hotel 1 / summonItem OI_tradeandstay 1
*sheriff- summonItem OI_Sheriff 1
*gen store- summonItem OI_GeneralStore 1
*taxidermist- no known code. buy from mailbox.
*bank- summonItem OI_Bank 1
*barber- summonItem OI_BarberShop 1
*blacksmith- summonItem OI_Blacksmith 1
*saloon- summonItem OI_Saloon 1
*train station- summonItem OI_TrainStation 1
*auctioneer- no known code. buy from mailbox.
*guards and gunslingers- no known codes. buy from mailbox.
-NO known code/s to buy just the merchants to place in your own constructed building.
buy just the merchant from mailbox.
*-player supply stand. to sell goods to other players. No known code. buy from mailbox.
*-mines. summonItem OI_Mineshaft 1 / summonitem OI_Mineshaft_t2 1
--------------------------------
TO USE CODES- open codebox (L Shift + ~), enter code, hit Enter. Item goes into your inventory. R Click on it in inventory, rotate with mouse wheel, L click to place. May be moved by looking at and holding E.
-you never have to capitalize any codes letters as theyre shown if youre typing them in.
easy way is copy codes list to notepad/word doc, alt-tab to copy, then Ctrl V into codebox.
--------------------------------------
-general store. buys Nothing at this time. you buy seeds (.05 each) and ice here is all right now.
-stable. buy sell horses. also sells horseshoes and saddles.
will only buy horses, not shoes or saddles.
- tailor. buy yourself clothes an hats & boots., and will buy clothes you make on the tannery, sewing bench, or shoe-hat bench., even sunglasses and gloves, even the bandits eye patches and face bandanas. (for 2.00 lol).
-gold exchange. to exchange gold/silver bars for that mula. cash.
cant spend gold/silver ore or bars, so this building is mandatory.
however gold and silver ore/bars are needed for some crafted things..horseshoes (anvil), and crafted sword (metal bench).
-gun shop. buy sell guns an ammo. need this one also.
-blacksmith. all this does is sell ironbars for crafting-building plank level and above. (0.75) easier than making them, not worth making them to sell to him however.
has a forge anyone can use and/or store things in.
-barber. 250 for a makeover. dont buy nothing.
-sheriff. sells deputys (40?) that will patrol around building area. they protect people in the area/town, but can turn on you if you shoot by them or for sure if you shoot them, and you lose morality that will bring bounty hunters after you.
-bank. holds your money. deposit and withdraw.
if you dont have a safe-which people can blow up and get to, they cant rob the bank. yet. so your moneys safe here, and also holds 5 objects u think precious enough.
-taxidermist. sells trophys, only way to get them, you cant make them. yet.
also buys sells pelts an rawhide. 10 cents each to buy pelts or rawhide here, sell them to him 5 cents each.
only thing u can do with pelts is mountain hat. on tannery. sell at tailor.
rawhide makes leather. on tannery.
some animals give both and/or wool for crafting.
*note- no known code for this. buy from mailbox.
-saloon. buys nothing. sells whiskey or rum. used in molotov cocktails is all I can think of. and ofc drinking-yeehaw!.
-train station. once placed, enter, go to merchant inside behind barred window to buy train engine, and up to 3 cargo cars, and the rail hammer to build tracks. cannot be moved, once placed, has to be destroyed and re-purchased if you dont like where it is. comes with one piece track attached for you to build on your tracks.
-hotel. theres the safe zone one and the big fancy one.
all hotels do is sell beds that you can also make, a nicer hotel bed is available to craft from blueprints.
1. tradeandstay - has safe zone, weapons automatically holstered when you come near. has room inside and downstairs with oven you can use. sometimes oven appears outside hotel...??.
2. Hotel- big fancy hotel. no safe zone. lobby area only. Ai at counter if E interacted with, sells only a bed.
neither hotel will buy anything.
-auctioneer. interact with auctioneer to add to sell or bid/buy items at auction.
options appear for minimum bid. default is 24 hours.
DOESNT WORK. takes all the money people put in for a bid if more than minimum and gives no change, and keeps it.
guns bought here are received more than half worn. dont even use this junk until they fix it. stupid mess.
-guards and gunslingers. no known codes, buy from mailbox.
when placed, holding E interact radial menu gives choice of guard area, stay, or follow.
they will protect your homestead/area where placed.
if anyone shoots around them, they respond with gunfire, and dont stop till theyre dead, far far away, or logout.
..including you-sometimes. for sure if you shoot them, even if its your guard/gunslinger, yes. difficult to kill them.
-mines. Tier 1 and 2. codes above, or buy from mailbox. place and enter with at least 1 drop of oil for T2, (oil well needed), (summonItem OI_OilPump 1)., a donkey is needed to run the T1 mine. find wild or buy from stable guy.
to mine gold silver ores to forge into bars for cash from Gold Exchange, and some crafting.
other ores also found in mines like sulpher and coal and salt, stone etc all in one place instead of searching above ground.
must battle 'crazy miners' however. use shotgun, bootleg or double-barrel, aim headshots, stay away from. may also be killed with sledgehammer, but dont advise sledge for the black masked 'executioneer' wielding that big axe. that axe deals substantial health point loss. from a Distance!. watch your health. heal with medicine or crafted alcohol bandages.
he may take up to 6 head shots with a shotgun.

Really do love this game and I do have RDR2 and love it as well but I always miss the building aspect when playing it so I do come back to this game so I can actually build up my own little homestead where I want.
The devs really should create a single player map gen option that creates like one large fulling built up town and several small like outposts when the map is populated and creation.
That would be a HUGE addition to the SP side of this game and probably open up the game to a bunch of new players who prefer to play SP.
Just a thought devs :)
