Questions about Chum!!

I am a advanced palyer in year 10 or 11 i believe. Is there a reason why most of the time my chum doesnt work? I would say 1 out of every 15 chum i use works!

really?? I have had no problems with chum, get lots of rare fish. Where are you throwing it? You have to throw the chum out into open water, then a big circle appears, and you fish in the circle for about 2 hours game time.

It only works when i throw the chum parcially on the beach but i will try to throw it in open waters next!

Update @1630 . . . I have been playing the game since and i have gone through 10 chum and only 1 of them worked. I tried in open water, parcially on the shore and standing from a bridge.

You definitely want to make sure you get close into the water as you can to have it thrown out further as if fish try to spawn in the shoreline, you won't be able to catch them. I haven't heard of anyone else having issues with it though and I've used it several times too. But try verifying your files through steam to see if that fixes it. If it still doesn't work, please update here so I can report to the devs. It would be good to know what map you play on too (whether classic or river). Oh, but I do think I remember someone stating if they are playing multiplayer and aren't the host, they had some issues.

I also use the gold fishing rod with the chum and I generally get about 50 fish for every chum I throw out. I have used chum in several different locations with no problems, but I also make sure there is no seaweed or rocks obstructing where I throw the chum.
Are you even getting the circle in the water when you throw the chum? Are you Throwing it by hitting E on keyboard, or are you trying to drag and drop it???
And I only have one chum in my hot bar at a time.

Luckily with chum, you can use any fishing rod and get the same fish

Hello its me!! I am here to update! I have been taking in all the advice and nothing seems to help. My chum will only work about 10% of the time. And when it does work sometimes it only works for about 45 seconds.

It is only supposed to work for a set amount of time. I never calculated to see how long but it is timed and it runs out after a bit

It usually lasts for about 2 hours game time for me, and I catch well over 50 fish each time, have caught as many as 100 fish with only one chum.
You definitely have a glitch or a problem with your system.

If you use a time mod, it will change it to catch more. I normally can only catch about 20, I believe

Ok everyone i think i have figured out the problem! I play multiplayer and Im not the host. She can throw it whenever she wants and it works. I have not tried to in my own world.

Ah, so that is the problem. The devs are aware about that so hopefully it will be fixed in the near future
