why don't I get more eggs?

so I have been raising chickens to get more eggs, as i have quests for 20 eggs, 30 eggs, 80 eggs. I now have 9 adult chickens in the coop, but I am still getting only 3 eggs a day, (when I had 6 chickens sometimes I only got 1 or 2 eggs),
Chicken are supposed to lay one egg a day, but I have never gotten an egg a day from each chicken.
I get more feathers and poop then I do eggs. Is this by design or a glitch???? The wiki says chickens lay an egg a day,
Today I got : 3 eggs, 5 feathers, and 1 poop = 9 items. I am not raising chickens for feathers = I want eggs.

They don't always lay eggs, they will sometimes give poop or feathers instead so sometimes it takes a while to get all the eggs. The wiki says they will drop feather, eggs or poop, not all or just one as it's random. The feathers are very valuable later once you unlock a storage that sells for a ton of money.

Also, you can steal the eggs from Jones and Mooney's farm each day. And at the top of the waterfall, there are some more chickens that you can steal the eggs there too. Some quests take a long time to get all the stuff for.

yea, i figured that, but we really should get more eggs. I now have 12 full grown chickens and I still only get 5 or 6 eggs a day. And I have been stealing eggs all along too, but some days there are none on the other farms too. Early on I was cooking and selling eggs for $$ so I dont have a large store of eggs and everyone in town has asked for eggs.
I have cheated a few times with a mod to give myself stuff.

Devs, is there a way to increase the rate of getting eggs from chickens?? I know have 16 full grown chickens and I still only get 4-5 eggs/day! Thats an awfully low rate of eggs, There should be at LEAST a 50% possibility of them laying an egg.
Does petting the chickens make any difference ???
Does decoration around the chicken coup make any difference??
I have a dung beetle in the coup to keep the poop cleaned up.

I believe that is a joke because you can steal his eggs so he doesn't get them like he should. lol.

But there's no way of getting more except getting more chickens. Petting doesn't make any difference, nor does decorations. It's just rng on what they give you each day
