How to tame wild chickens

I've been feeding them bird feed every day, and it does fill in a little heart above their heads; but there is no taming bar like there was when I tamed wild bunnies, cats, etc. Do the wild chickens need something besides bird feed to be tamed? Or is this some kind of glitch?

Do you have a chicken coop? If not that could be your first problem. Otherwise it should work with just bird feed, I've done it a few times. Not recently however. Maybe it could be a bug?

Yes, I have a chicken coop. I'm thinking maybe it's a bug. A heart above their head shows up on the chicken and fills up when I feed it, but no taming bar--and it's always empty again the next day.

If there's no taming bar, the animal can't be tamed. :(

Yeah, that's what I suspected :( Which wild chickens can I tame then? I was trying to tame the group up on the mountain above the waterfall.

i am having trouble taming the mallard duck near the waterfall at the duck pond. no bar on top of it either and I have a duck pond with 1 vacancy

You can just buy the chickens and ducks. Unless theres a color variant somewhere your looking to get.

I think both wild chickens and ducks are supposed to be tameable for roughly 7 days of feed/14 wheat per, but it might not be fully working yet. I noticed on my attempt with the ducks they'd get the heart but not the bar, but the beetle I got had an issue where the bar only showed if you hit the right view angle or it'd be off screen somewhere for reasons unknown. As others said though, you can buy both from Mr James or the chickens and cattle from Mr Mooney - or rather his shop keeper.

Do you mean for the chicken achievements? Those are about getting them to mature into adult chickens, doesn't matter how you got them you just have to feed them until they grow up (no idea about taming or winning an adult chicken though, I do know bunnies won do count toward the bunny tamer achievements though).
