How do i bottle a butterfly?

I need to collect a butterfly i have a bottle but i don't know how to bottle a butterfly, am i supposed to craft something and catch a butterfly with it first?

I think I read that people jumped, bottle in hand, to catch the butterfly. I am not having any success and put the quest aside because I get too annoyed trying. I'll try again some day in the future...

you pretty much just have to jump from a hill or higher up spot and glide past the butterfly. pressing E with the bottle equipped when you get close to it will catch the butterfly

I found a cool spot. There is a cove on your part of the territory,not the small pond but the one on the other side that leads to the ocean. It has a chest on the far side. Go to where the chest is, and a bit to the right you can ride up the hill just a bit, it's green there. just stand there and wait for the prompt to catch the butterfly. These are blue butterflies.

Ok, I'll wait til it spawns a new chest because it really helps finding the exact spot. It's sweet, I can catch one every couple of days. I catch one, give it one or two days, then go and get another. Just stand there and watch, adjust where you are inching closer to where they fly. Once you got the spot you're cool. Picture coming soon. :)

Just go to the pond/stream behind your house. There are rocks surrounding it that you can jump off.

On my spot you don't need to jump. Just wait for the prompt. Just like fishing.

It took me forever to catch one! My suggestion is to build a ramp at the workbench then set it up near the butterflies so you can get to the right height. I wait and press E a million times as soon as the butterfly comes near. Good luck!

I just go to the small pond which is near the house and the dungeons (later on duck pond will be there also). There's 3 butterflies, first is supereasy to catch, if you stand on the rocks fairly to the left just jump up and press E continuously, no need to jump off the rock.
The second needs more practice, I jump off the rock with the glider to fly straight over the pond, right toward it, then pressing E - by now I catch it first try every time. The third one I normally leave alone, found no good spot or glide-route to catch this one.
