Does Phoenix Point work with Linux Mint?
Just got two "new" Dell Latitude 3560 laptops and trying to decide what OS will be most fun.

Store page states Windows 10 and MacOS, so probably not. Just wondered if anyone had it working.

Dell Latitude 3560
Linux Mint 21.3
2.20 gigahertz Intel Core i5-5200U
16GB RAM (2x8GB)
500GB HDD

Nothing but the base Mint right now (Cinnamon, IIRC)

I haven't tried Proton yet, so this should be enlightening.
I greatly appreciate your help! Whether it works or not, I have a project for tomorrow!!!!

Those specs are similar to my HP Elitebook 850 G3. You may have to turn details down in graphics settings, but otherwise it should work fine at 1366x768 resolution. It should be fine letting Stem select the version of Proton. You just have to turn on compatibility in your Steam settings then most Windows only games should work.

Steam with proton has made such a big difference to Linux Gaming. I play a lot of Windows games on my Linux system. While I run Bazzite, I have run Mint and had no problem running Windows games.

Thanks again!!
You're welcome
By the way, it seems to work perfectly. And the Latitude 3560 is no high-end PC... it's pretty much bog-standard entry-level laptop for 2014... Had to replace battery, HDD (i had a spare), mouse (again, a spare), and add another stick of 8GB DDR3; but it ended up being a great buy off eBay. Got lucky, I guess. But I now have a "dedicated gaming laptop"... insert big smile here. Lots of great and inexpensive options!!!!

Also, if you don't know Linux, there are lots of "free" options (look at Distrowatch for a dizzying array of free OS versions and appliances) instead of Windows 11 after Windows 10 support is gone. And videos at YouTube and other places to help.

Plus, as you see above, great folks here in the Community to offer assistance.
Always happy to be of help. My Elitebook is from around 2015/2016 and it is also very capable of a lot of game. I play Phoenix Point, XCom, and even American Truck Simulator and European Truck Simulator 2.

Linux Mint is great for first time Linux users, especially when coming from Windows. You'll see a lot of "Gaming" distros, like Garuda or Bazzite, but honestly, all they offer is a gaming theme and Steam and other tools pre-installed.

You can pretty much do all that with Mint if you don't mind taking some time to install the appropriate apps. In some ways Bazzite is a little more than I need because I don't need some of the pre-installed tools.

Welcome to gaming on Linux.
And again, many thanks. I just installed XCOM EU/EW and it worked well.

Thank you for this headsup on Proton. When Win10 support dies, I have no intention of upgrading or giving MS a penny ever again. Games are the only reason to stay on their wretched OS.
There may be a few other reasons, but I will start migrating to linux a PC at a time to see where the boundaries are.
