The area setup makes it unreliable as enemies can just walk around it, then it can also fail to trigger when they do enter it, and then if they DO trigger it - you soldier just unloads a mag into a random trash can and calls it a day.
Perhaps the single most underwhelming and unreliable mechanic in the entire game. I got burned by it so many times - i'd rather have my soldier do literally anything else than try overwatching.
Sometimes OW does fail for no reason, but usually it's because the shooter doesn't pass the perception check modified by the stealth value of the target.
Its Bulgarian team that seems laisy (nothing against Bulgarians per se), so sad since some of the game settings and mechanics has potential for great Xcom and Civ crossover.
In the end, it seems game is saved by users (as happens with Duke Foerever leak or Alien Colonial Marines :DDD with this Void user heavy mod
Yes - the issue is not when the door is open but when its closed.
I am guessing the door triggers the overwatch and doesn't count the move outside through the door.
I have tested this several times, doors have no impact on OW. A door opening can't trigger OW, only eligible actors stepping into the cone can trigger it.
