I recommend you use them
I believe you get:
x1 Assault Set (+AR)
x3 Heavy Armor sets (+ Heavy Cannons)
x2 Sniper sets (+SR)
x1 Infiltrator set (+Crossbow)
x1 Technician set (+RoboArms)
x1 Berzerk set (+Axe)
x1 Priest set
Assault, Heavy and Sniper sets are identical in stats to Phoenix default armor and such you are still encouraged to upgrade to faction armor later.
The armor can be disassembled, but will not grant you any resources for it - you're just freeing up your arsenal space.
These sets inderectly make early game easier as it saves you the headache of manufacturing armor for rookies, not to mention the resources it saves.
The problem with most of the weapons is you cannot craft the proper ammo until you research the corresponding tech. That kinda screwed me over in my blind playthrough until I figured it out.
It is thousands of ressources worth so if you are looking for the maximum challenge, you probably would want to turn the option off. Otherwise it's kinda nice.
