Can I not reverse engineer Synedrion gear I get from the start?

What do you mean from the start? The promotional skins equipment? You can't research those. You need to find a laser weapon somewhere in a tactical mission. The freebies don't count.

It's promo material. Getting free guns and armor at the start is already very generous, being able to research them would be even more op.

They don't even give resource when you disassemble them. You literally do it just to remove them from your inventory.

To be fair the game shouldnt give you promo items until after you research them.. Otherwise you have guns before you research them.. Also they need to have promo armor / color combos from the other factions not just phoenix
