But apart from the military nature they were different characters with different moves, plots and motivations.
That's like saying we don't need Hayate because there's Ryu. Or that we don't need Ayane because we have Kasumi...
I think a few people was a bit upset seeing Gen Fu missing, I admit i think Leon was one of the easiest to drop as he has never played a major role in the main story and is "meh" character in the community, some like him, some don't.
Why is it invalid? And why do you need to invalidate someone else? And I never thought Raidou looked old in anway...
Ok, I didn't know that Leon and Bayman were very different. I only know Leon for the first DOA title I played on the Dreamcast. I did not play any of the DOA games after that...
In the end, though, it's up to the developers who they want in their game.
That's why there's news and hype for Tekken 8 while DOA7 is getting a maybe they will reboot it, but probably not because Team Ninja is too busy with support for Wo Long and making Rise of Ronin. Team Ninja is Koei Tecmo's souls-like game developer now.
That's not really a 1 for 1 comparison. DoA6 had a fairly conventional development for a fighting game, launching with 26 characters and adding 5 more by the end of the year, finishing with 31.
Tekken 7 had arguably the most bizarre development of all time for a fighting game, launching in arcades with only 20 characters, and didn't reach 31 characters until over a year and a half later. It finally launched on consoles two years later with 35 characters, adding 16 more characters over the course of 4 years to get to 51.
That's 1 year for DoA6 vs. 6 years for Tekken 7. You also have to factor in that most of the roster in both games consists of old characters with moveset animations already completed, but Tekken has a larger number of old characters they can copy-paste. 20 more characters for DoA would probably triple the development cost, because almost all of them would have to be brand new. There were only 4 brand new characters in DoA6. Tekken 7 also started with 4 brand new characters, then added another 9, but that was backloaded across 6 years.
1 year in, both games were in the exact same place, but KT had already decided the sales numbers weren't working out with DoA6, whereas Tekken 7 hadn't even sold a single copy yet. The difference wasn't developer effort, it was wildly different corporate goals.
My Tekken 7 comparison was to show what DOA6 could have became if done right and how very sad that it didn't. You skipped over my first point that DOA6 ended with 5 less characters than DOA5 and no tag mode. It's worst than DOA5, let that sink in, the game that came before it when sequels should at least outdo what came before. Years from now when people look back at DOA 5&6, they will remember 5 as one of the best DOA games of all time and 6 as probably the worst DOA game ever.
It's so bad that you, the guy defending Koei Tecmo's cheap and laziness towards DOA6, don't even have the mouse verification badge next to your username that says you own and play DOA6 on Steam, even though there's a free to play version. That says something about the game. At the very least you should download the free version and fix that, pump up those DOA6 numbers a bit.
even though bayman was in the first game and leon was introduced in the 2nd. leon definitely feels different when they added him back in 5
Bayman = Sneaky bastard
