Probably, but it will be a while. Team Ninja got a lot on their plate right now with Wo Long expansion DLCs and making Rise of the Ronin.

Sadly he had left himself in 2021. He did great job with DoA5. DoA6 was ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by greedy publisher. Dlc prices and unfinished game at launch its all publisher fault.
This question has been asked so many times here already... can't you just use search? Anyway, there probably will be one. Their first attempt was cancelled and the team withdrawn. Then after a while they started again from scratch. Which means instead of a 2023 release it might be a couple of more years.

It was not just that. It was the fact they never fixed any of it. The game became abandonware less than a year after launch, when it received the final update. They had supported DoA 5 for over three years and the usual life cycle of a fighting game is around 5 to 6 years.

As for the DLC it was not the price that caused the issues, because DoA costume bundles were expensive af in 5 as well (I must know, I bought many). The reason why no one (including myself) spent a lot on the ones in 6 is because they were so uninspired and low quality, just copy paste of the most basic ideas. If you look at what awesome stuff there was in 5 you can't even imagine where all that creativity went off to. And yes, I realize some of it was carried over from 3 and 4 but many things were new amazing ideas unique to each fighter. And on top of that the normal costumes became fewer, just lazy recolors, and were still an incredibly grindy chore to get in comparison to the DoA 5 unlocking mechanism. And you have to cycle through all the DLC costumes you don't own every time instead of them remaining hidden.

DoA 6 only failed because it was really bad in general. Except for the graphics and the easier holds there is nothing good in it.

No one gona support game for free. Wanna game to be updated regulary buy DLC. But DoA community go nuts when devs release any dlc. Yes pricing was too expensive but majority of the people complained about mere existence of dlc and demanded they get it fo free... Yes your favorite character gonna be DLC because this is way it is from ancient times. Before it was super/ultra etc edition now it's DLC.

Most unique costumes was released pretty late. DoA 6 first DLC was not worse than DoA5 ones.

Once again it's publisher fault. They demanded more monetization. Devs with Shimbori in charge can only obey.

You mostly complained about dlc and costumes. Gameplaywise DoA6 not worse if not better than DoA5(grumpy grandpas(aka pro players) can disagree).
Not many people play these types of games and even if they do, they don't actually "play" them per say.

I think the market for good fighting games is expanding. But it's very dominated by a handful of franchises.

If DOA could lose it's stigma and be recognized as the solid, legitimate fighting game it is, I think there's a place.
But DOA has two stigmas now, both very hard to shake: sexualized female characters, and bad DLC monetization. DOA will probably forever carry the burden/blessing of hot babes fighting, whether it's fair to judge DOA on that or not. It can change it's monetization in KT reads the current market and/or grows a brain.

Im ready for a DOA7. I have more money to give into this series. No one seems to want to take it yet.

Ironically I think that DOA having attractive women is a boon some might see it as a stigma but especially in our overly woke society I appreciate any dev team that fights the system. Mortal kombat lost a lot of its heart by wrapping its women like mummies and dropping the gore/brutality factor down. The wild thing is that the DOA venus vacation is blocked on american steam (its a vollyball game not a fighting game) not sure if its blocked because of gacha features or because of the cute girls but its a shame how prudish the west has become
I am not sure myself. All I get is radio silence. TK was planning on rebooting the whole DOA series at one point before 7, I guess?

I m not sure what to think about this. It looks like a mixed reception on the developer side of things.

You know, the more tedious and time wasting a game is the more people will stay around, especially if there's FOMO involved and/or fanaticism which often leads to sunken cost fallacy (BDO, New World or Lost Ark comes to mind). It doesn't have to be fun in the slightest at least not in the long run. There's also plenty of "games" here that solely exist to print steam cards or in-game currencies and nothing else. But Valve doesn't care because it makes them money.

CS:GO for example would drop from top 100 if they where to remove the loot boxes. But Valve would never do that as can be seen with the examples above. CS:GO is what every NFT wants to be and then some.

Sexualization to DOA is what gore is to Mortal Kombat. It's the thing that put it on the map. If I remember correctly, they tried to shake of that 'stigma' back one 5 was first revealed, but walked it back upon fan backlash.

I get why they'd want to try it: They want to sit at the big boys table at EVO. But during 5's tenure, they got a big enough tourney scene of its own right to not really need EVO. Even in my home country of Australia, 5 garnered a pretty big community there. And I believe it was one of the main games being played at Battle Arena Melbourne DESPITE the stigma.

We need to get over this obsession with games making it to EVO. Not every game has to be played at EVO to be successful.
