Lol "T-rex arms" that comment alone made me chuckle, i appreciate the smiles Kurisu
So how long did you train with her? You can just train with her for like 30 minutes and expect to be beasting on everyone online with her wtf? lmao.
Though it's true that Marie and Honoka aren't high tier, but people are taking that tier list Emeryreigns made way too seriously and the wrong way too. Marie and Honoka are still viable characters. You do need t work a lil harder with them though.
My guess is that you probably have poor fundamentals, you probably never throw punish, get hit by lows all day, you throw out unsafe moves all day etc etc.
Not even a top tier character can fix those flaws man.
Marie on the other hand is just super frustrating to play due to her extremely low damage...
Still enjoy playing both and if I feel like getting frustrated (especially with Marie) I just switch to Ayane or Ryu.
I trained with her, and nico the same amount of time. And got completely different results, i climbed with Nico fast because i do have fundamentals, and managed to get to -B not knowing many damage heavy combos. Nicos moveset is safe, low frame, and powerful, and less readable. Honoka on the other hand is the contrary lol.
Also "training" time is actually relevant to character balance. Its like when people say Gigas and Law are in the same tier list in tekken. "They are the same tier man, you just need to devote 3 years of training with gigas!". And to even be nice, and agree those statements to be true "you just need to train longer with X character compared to Z character!" is still a sign of bad game balance. it is always healthier for it to be longtime training = strong, compared to longtime training = balanced vs other characters. (perfect example is something like Yasou in league of legends, or Genji in OW. a noob is completely useless, but a good player is rewarded greatly!)
Edit: Even in my original post i admitted it is possible to be a B rank with them, its why i i said "good job" to those who have done it. Because you are putting yourself at a disadvantage by playing honoka lol. p.s. people need to learn its possible to have an opinion about something, and that opinion is not just because "you're bad!". That mindset has to change for the online communities man lol. But honestly you're prolly right, its why i mentioned in that tier list topic not too long ago. I am more than likely trash, its why i managed to climb with nico because she is strong just like the ninjas, and tina! Lol
Nico is a brand new character. People still don't know the match up at all. I still struggle with Nico and i'm pretty solid at the game, i'm currently an A rank. Once you get to the B+ rank you can't really get away with the generic "cheap" tactics anymore. You have to have decent fundamentals and execution if you want to keep climbing up the ranks cuz a lot of players in the higher ranks know how to play very well.
When an S rank Nico shows up to fight me I have a very hard time cuz I simply don't know the match up that well (tho I am getting better at it) plus I don't have the full game so I can't just take Nico into the "lab" and learn all her strings and see if she's negative or not. I have core fighters and its enough for me for now cuz I only main Kasumi and she's in it so i'm good. I can play for "free" basically.
If I had the full game I would take Nico into training mode and see what she's all about so I can learn to fight her better.
So you steam rolling people in the lower ranks with Nico doesn't surprise me. She's a top tier character, she's new (no match up knowledge) and people in the lower ranks are pretty easy to beat since they have zero fundamentals.
When I first got on I steam rolled the ♥♥♥♥ out of the lower ranks getting win streaks that ranged from 15-28 that all ended once I got to B+ though. Kasumi is good in doa6 but everyone by now knows the match up its easy to punish her because she's an old school character. She's got a few new tricks/combos but overall she's similar to 5 and you can punish her the same way you could in 5. However because I have fundamentals and basic knowledge of the game it easily carried me through all the lower ranks.
At A rank now i'm lucky to get an 8 win streak. I usually hover around the 4-7 win streak range now.
I've played against A+ and S rank Marie's before and they can dish out some nice 50% combos without any interactibles only needing a wall splat for the extra 10% damage you get off a wall splat.
That's pretty damn good damage right there for a "low damage" character.
Also when she mimics Jann Her JPVO's is insanely cute. Honoka is just very very cute.
