areas look too similar?
Anyone else feels like this? I visited the last two areas in the west now, havent seen everything there and while they look neat, its "just" another forest area.

Nord 1 already was very disappointing.

South stands out and really looks cool. That one really icy area in the north stands out too.

But many maps are just flooded, boggy forests. As cool as the game looks, this is getting kinda boring and depressing towards the end. I was hoping for some futuristic floating island area in the sky, or at least floating platforms, Or a city floating in the water in the middle of the ocean, like in stargate atlantis.

They could have done more to make areas look a bit more distinct in the overall theme.

What do you think?

Yes, I think N2 (Flooded Valley), N3 (Lost Marshes), and W1 (Western Delta) were a bit too similar, especially the last two. You could even throw in E2 (Wooded Plateau), but that one was a bit more distinct. And yeah, forests are not particularly interesting. Some more creative environments would've been nice, but I guess the switch from simulations to "real" locations came with some limitations. It's still not that bad, but I'm hoping for more variety in a future DLC pack, maybe using simulations again. Possibly another Serious DLC, but this time with new maps based on Serious Sam instead of just a player skin and a new voice.

But i don't think it's fair to say that the last two areas in the West are just more forests. The statues in W2, the huge rings and all the circular puzzle areas in W3, and the nice views in both environments are pretty cool.

non of the places looks the same. Its 4 different biome's with its own architecture.

Well the options are limitless. They build all that. They could have build anything.

3 of the 4 bioms are forests. The one a bit more icy, the other a bit more rocky. How is this not too similar?

The mountain area looks really cool i gotta say. But they could have done more with a few wooded areas, like i say. Some areas look pretty basic.

Oh, so you are one of these lucky people living in an area that is absolutely unique?

The forest biome don't look the same, two not even same trees. One is even in a different season. Even the wildlife is different.

The two biome that looks similar is the two "red rocks and water" but the architecture is still different.

Also don't forget that the whole puzzle part of the game take place on One island with several smaller islands.

What kind of argument is this? This is a video game. It does not need to follow any real rules in therms of this. Like i said, the options are limitless. The tram sure does not travel so fast that the north and south area being so much different would make any sense.

There are 3 or 4 maps that just consist of rather dull forest, different architecture or not. That was all that i was saying. They could have changed those into something a bit more exciting.

The puzzle geometry is mostly the same or similar which is different from Talos 1. And the location indicators strewn throughout the location maps which I was expecting to be a little different. But the locations themselves are so gorgeous and beautiful and varied (enough) that I don't care.

I thought one of the areas being an old human city ruin would have been cool. I remember in the TTP1 ending we woke up in an area with the dam and some tall apartment buildings, so it could have been cool to explore a post-apocalyptic urban area like that while solving puzzles, and see the newly built robot structures on top of the old ones.

Perhaps in a DLC expansion?

That would be great. Although, I'd guess it's unlikely that we will get a dlc with brand new assets like that.

At some point, We see a picture of the post-apocalypse Eiffel tower in an in-game note/thread. So there must be some parts of big cities with buildings and landmarks still up even after many years. We do find cars, sattelite dishes randomly scattered around in nature.

Still, I like the natural environments we get, but it does feel a bit samey and not straying very far from the first game, for better or worse.

Visually speaking, I couldn't disagree more. Not just in graphical fidelity but in style and aesthetics. The art direction in this game is just absolutely stunning and I love it. Everything is so interesting to look at and the locations are so fun to just spend time in and wander around. It's SO monumentally different. Same in spirit, but it doesn't feel samey to me.

Mechanically speaking, it's the same with a few extras and with just more to do. And I love that.

You can still see an "ancient" human city outside of New Jerusalem.

A little trick - the weather on the maps changes randomly every time when you leave and arrive into a location. Often it can dramatically change your perception of any map.

From example:
North 1. First time then I arrive to this map it has a bright sunny weather and I loved this map. After returning to this map I got foggy/snowy weather and it was... somehow.
East 3 (and West 2) was a great map with sunset. But when I return to them later they have a day and the maps has become even cooler.
West 1. A fall bog was cloudy at first time but became very beautiful and warm in clear sunny weather.

So, my advice: if you don't like the map - try to leave and back to the location. Your taste can cange with a weather.
MusicallyInspired Nov 15, 2023 @ 12:17pm
Yeah what a stroke of genius to alternate between two different times of day/weather states when returning to locations. And some of them look spectacular. Southern Coast at sunset is captivating. New Jerusalem actually has 3 states and the Megastructure/Base Camp has at least 3 (possibly 4).
