I guess setting the quicksave point to the start of the area and not allowing mid point saves was the solution.
That's a bug, devs are fixing it.
I too was frustrated with the lack of save games and being reset all the way to the start. It wouldn't be much of an issue if both areas didn't have unnecessarily deep water that kills you. :/
With the mid-range degree of difficulty of this game up until the end, I don't think they would finish the game with a Gehenna like puzzle to prevent many from completion. And Hotfix 1.0.2 said they addressed this problem, but as of just now. All my progress is being lost on exit from the game. Kudos to all who finished the game with this bug, but I'm just not that good or at least don't have that amount of time retrying!
I'd already worked it out once so I didn't consider it to be cheating :-)
The bug that was fixed in 1.0.2 is that sometimes it would incorrectly partially save your progress, which led to the puzzle being impossible to complete later.
We will consider making a save system for that puzzle in future patches.
That would be much appreciated, at close to 70 years old, some of us no longer have the brain capacity of the generations of players who follow us. LOL

I do understand how making a "proper" save game feature for this particular area may be challenging at this point but there's an easier fix for majority of this issue. Just don't let the players die :/
Great point, but also consider that when you have to exit the game, to go to work or to bed, all the progress is lost.
By the way, the concept of Utopia/Dystopia and its game level design, I found to be genius.
But i'm not the kind of person who plays through such an marvelous game just within such a short time, cause I want to enjoy it as long as possible. So gimme at least a month headstart.
Arguing about how the last stage should work while not having any clue how it works now is bizarre.
There's no "epic endgame stage". You can just misstep into water like a dummy and have half an hour worth of progress rolled back. That's the epicness of it.
I imagine something like the tower in the first game, where you had to quickly work your way towards the top though i'm not sure if this one had checkpoints.
Yes I have little informations but I know a few examples of games finales became quite anticlimactic because I had to read in hindsight the developers made it a lot easier due to some singular complaints.
If it's really just a slight annoyance that resets singular puzzles, well yeah for sure this might be an issue, but NSKuber said that this was made by design, so i'm not sure, perhaps it's not that trivial to the drama of the scene like you make it sound like.
It's a swamp.
We're talking about a freaking swamp.
There's no tower, no timer, no pressure, and hardly any "drama of the scene". The swamp just has both shallow and deep points which are hard to tell apart before you stupidly walk into a deep "pocket" and die (thinking you could've crossed it on shallow water).
This is legitimately one of the stupidest arguments I've ever had online.
