T1 and T2 Worth Getting?
Hi guys. I have heard of these games, but know nothing about them, except that they are puzzle games. Are they similar to Myst games? I have played the Myst series, and Portal games. Are T1 and T2 worth getting? Thoughts appreciated :)

One of the best puzzle games ever created! Buy bundle Talos 100%! Talos 2 for me is totally on par with Portal 2, absolutely unique experience.

I'm a bit biased but I think they are some of the best puzzle /story telling you will ever find in a game. Genuinely worth the buy

Since you mentioned Portal, I'll quote myself from another thread...

To me TTP 1 and 2 are quite comparable to Portal 1 and 2. Portal 1 was a simple puzzle game that surprised you by also delivering an unexpected fantastically crafted story. Portal 2 massively expanded on the scope and scale of the story, giving you history, lore, world-building, npcs, exploration and some epic scale locations, but all there to serve up more fun puzzles. TTP 1 and 2 tick similar boxes for me and I love all of it. The Talos games even beat the Portal games in my opinion.

The Myst series generally offers a very different puzzle experience. Those puzzles are typically far more convoluted and sometimes require significant work to solve.

The Talos Principle is more comparable to Portal, where you have a set number of tools that you familiarize yourself with, and each puzzle can be solved using the tools provided.

While Portal had a fun storyline, TTP is far deeper and actually challenges your ideas and can have a noticeable impact on how you see the world, assuming you let it.

If you love puzzles, get both. These are timeless classics. Playing T1 plus extension before T2 is advisable lore-wise, but you can do it the other way round and not lose much, I think.

If you enjoy puzzle games or philosophy, I can recommend both games. They are both phenomenal experiences, in both regards.

I have not played Myst, and I have not been able to play T2 yet beyond the tutorial. However, I played both Portal 1 & 2. Portal is the gold standard for puzzle games, IMO. T1 was even better than both of those, particularly given the uniquely peaceful atmosphere, chill soundtrack and the engaging philosophical quandaries it lightly prods you with. T1 does feel pretty lonely, but I think that played in perfectly to the story that is unique to T1.

Absolutely worth playing if you like puzzles, but bonus points if you like that kind of atmosphere, soundtrack and philosophy.

This captures the general "feel" of Myst, but the puzzling is strictly hardcore, self-contained areas. There's plenty of trial and error, but some spatial awareness skills are absolutely necessary.

The lore and plot are interesting, and playing part 1 first sets up a small "reveal" in part 2, but as said above, you won't miss much if you play out of order.
Side note about lore: It deals with philosophy and a touch of metaphysics with brief flybys over religious territory.

I'd highly recommend trying a demo first. If you don't like any of those puzzles, you'll know right away to avoid, as they only get more complex. If you DO like the demo, then strap in for a game that will challenge (and frustrate) your brain cells just like Myst.

Edit: Check the GLaDOS trailer for the game if you liked Portal.

Don't know about TP2 (it released after Robocop: Rogue City so need to wrap that one first -- why the most awaited by me games of 2023 after BG3 had to release on the same day?) other than what was in demo, however TP1 was a great puzzle game and I would recommend it. Some of the puzzles were more advanced than the puzzles in Portal series. Story was a bit more subtle since most of it was through reading messages and arguing with library ai through the terminals however was still good.

Of course people here are going to tell you they are great games. But similar to Myst? I don't think so. I briefly tried Myst 1, hated the atmosphere and the puzzles had nothing to do with Talos (or maybe I haven't been far enough in the game).
Some people above mention Portal 2. In terms of difficulty, there are much harder puzzle games than Talos, but Talos is in my opinion clearly harder that Portal 2. The latter is aimed at a general audience while Talos, without being really hardcore, is one or two level above. But it makes you feel smart and solving Talos' puzzles is much more rewarding to me than it was progressing in Portal 2.

This is my opinion.

Myst is about exploring and figuring out how all the things you found work together.
TTP are puzzle game but in a much more structured sense. You enter a puzzle room and the game gives you the tools and the limited space to use them in.

If you like Myst for the visuals and the serene and solitary atmosphere though, you'll probably enjoy the games. TTP 2 gives me big Riven vibes whenever I ride the transport pod.

They're close to Myst in terms of narrative, and Portal in terms of puzzles. Overall, they're both wonderful games with plenty of thought-provoking material.
Might be your cup of tea or not, but they're both high quality games that won't make you regret purchasing them.

I agree they're not super similar to games like Myst. These are spacial puzzles with some logic thrown in. Much closer to the Portal Series than Myst style point and click puzzles which are often convoluted and require a lot of trial and error.

One of the best things about 1 & 2 are the large number of player generated maps. Some are just as good as the originals. It's like 25 games for the price of 2!
