If not, you need troops that with more hp to take damage, better with shield unit to resist more damage. Below are some statics of total hp (Lv 1 base hp x Lv 1 base unit count) for reference.

231560 Demesne Spearmen
205688 Palace Guards
198184 Men-at-Arms
188340 Squires
187880 Shieldmaidens
176790 Condottieri Guards

167400 Silahdars
163080 Queen's Knights
138150 Iron Reapers
Clearly, tower shield units still have high base hp count. If you give them away to enemy, the damage sum shall still be good. Yet, as your level may not be high and do not have lots of troops to pick, just as a reference.
One more way, if you are lucky enough, getting into the map Continopolis(or call Reginopolis) and be the defend site. Try to take the cheapest troops (such as Serfs, Tenant Farmers and Woodcutters) to the most left part of the wall at the beginning and take the Artillery damage of Great Bombard. It will cause 50k+ damage per hit and up to 160k+ damage for headshot. So you will get 32 x 50k+ damage = 1600k damage. 1 units all gone by Great Bombard should be high enough for getting MVD. I am not sure if you are on the attack side, bombing your own troops, does it count the damage.
They heal automatically with each attack once they are under... 40%? health, I think, and you can also give them the special doctrine which heals them after a few attacks. They also have huge amounts of HP, so they work well for that task.
Paladins and Men-At-Arms can also do good work there since they are ovverall tough and can heal themselves. You want to avoid squishy units like ranged or most cavalry, you need to soak up as much damage as possible without losing troops.
Don't be afraid to pull your units back if things are calm so that you can heal them on the supply point
All of that is true, but seriously follow some serfs around with your infantry lol... They heal a good bit.
Er, wait... grey hair garrison literally has tower shields... sooo...
Thanks
