I wouldnt mind being able to build different styles of ship. Maybe through unlocking the lore, you can also unlock different appearances for ship construction, especially when it comes to the carpentry of the ship

as for release, i'd say no. most ships has similar qualities in ship design with the only changes being the color of the sails and some slight tint differents

Mitch, these people have obviously not looked into the game enough. Ships will not be built from scratch but will have templates, during release there will be 5 templates none of which are viking ships. There is however customization to the ship such as furniture, coloring and maybe some building on it for like cabins or such etc.

would be cool to be able to make your own ship though. Various ship components could be placed as modules, and then have a lot of free form parts of the ship.

I feel impelled to observe that about the historical context here. The Viking age was about 793–1066 AD. The Golden Age of Piracy is 1650-1730.

The technological differences are extreme. Like cannons on the modern ships and a total lack of rigging on Viking longboats.

But just for fun? Who doesnt want to own multiple ships? Add some cannons to the viking ship and itll be fine.
