well this is going to pee a lot of people off from starting fresh sod that life is too short to be messed about with this i REFUSE to take any part in this game if this is how the devs treats it's dedicated players i will be putting in a VERY strong negative review so to warn others to keep well away from this game and not buy it as in my mind to have to start fresh again only means in my mind that the single player is broken as it won't load up saved files.
First of all, OLD savegame probably generated with the old 11x11 grid layout, of course that will not work with the new map/layout. In this case you must export the old map files from the SGE, then it will work.
I tried personally and worked:
For old save/old map:
- 1. copied back the saved data to the savedatlaslocal
- 2. edited the "lastgridcoord" file and insterted the ?version=1 to the end
- 3. Ran the SGE and exported the old 11x11 servergrid.json (check the file's date if you not sure which is which - the servergrid11x11.json with the date 2021.04.07. what you need)
- 4. exported all the map images (121 piece of small .png) too
- 5. exported the worldmap image too (one big .png).
- (worth to mention, the old save used .png format for the islands' and worldmap's images, so you need to export those as .png (or export as .jpg but convert them with any utility you use)
- 6. start atlas and enjoy.
- (make sure you backup everything at the very beginning!!)
In the SGE there is several map layouts (.json), a very old one (the standard 15x15 map from years before, thats the "OG"), the prepatch version (the "old" label in the picture - i talked about this in this comment) and the actual/current/"live" ("new" label in the picture) https://i.imgur.com/csUAELp.png
you make it sound all so simple but not everyone is computer minded at data programming with that said if it is that easy why can't the devs release a small patch with this data in it that will convert your saved file and keep your shipyard.
seems they won't or can't which only means they are lazy to do it and save everyone's saved game and there progress within the game which has taken many months for some to build up.
this is the very first game i have ever known to destroy peoples saved games never had this trouble with ark when it was still in early access or any other game in 12 years i been a steam member.
Youre right, of course. Solving the problems is not our job, we are the players and the costumers, who paid 20ish bucks for this crappy game. But if you like the game and the devs are lazy or slow, you should find any temporary available solutions.
In this season i have no time for official servers, so i played only in single player with friends and family. Of course, as everyone else, i lost my saved char and world too, and even after that, i had the "game not saving" game breaking bug.
I had luck. I know this game is sucks, and from technical aspect its buggy as hell, so i saved often and made tons of backup from my single progress, plus i played a little bit with the Server Grid Editor (SGE) before (made few custom worlds just for fun). This is why i could succesfully restore my old atlas map and my save game. Its not easy, but tbh its not difficult either, only a few clicks and you can continue. And the most important thing: this "export everything from SGE" method is the only way to continue your OLD save game, because the worldmap/grid layout is changed permanently in May.
That's the great thing about that mod.......you can pick the shipyard up anytime you want.
No, it's not perfect, and has the limitation of having to release the ship early, but it's just a work around that we can do until they (hopefully) fix these bugs.
I tried that mod earlier and indeed, worked like a charm. BUT, worth to mention, after you put down a nice 100+ quality shipyard (no matter what "color" or "stat"), when you pick it up, you will have a only a standard with 100% quality, not the previous one. So yes, you can save that shipyard and reuse later, but you will lose the shipyard's extra quality. IMHO be careful, save the best plans/shipyard until the fix, use only the standard or low quality (100-120%) instead.
EDIT.........
Oh, almost forgot to add, that far as I know, the mod has not been updated for the newest advanced shipyard to build the ramming ship. It covers ships up to Galleon, unless the mod author has updated it by now. Just a heads up.
I am currently playing now and my game saves every time I log off. When I log on the next day I start right where I logged off.
