Don't use Dragon style at the start of the game, it's by far the weakest.
Other than that, Practice, learn general enemy behavior... and upgrade your skills and do NOT neglect body as I did early on.
Hope this helps at least a bit!
thanks for the info
0. Food: Find the Smile Burger joint around the middle/south of map, order take out, and stock up on the most expensive meal. They're cheap in comparison to other healing items and heal for a large amount. I always keep four on me and scarf them down in case of emergencies. The same goes for many other items such as those that increase your heat gauge, they kinda throw these at you left and right so don't be afraid to use them.
1. Equipment: As you play you'll find, purchase, and unlock equipment. Equip the right gear for the job. Example - several enemies holding knives? Equip some gear that protects against weapon damage. The same can be applied against bullets.
2. Weapons: Equip them and then press the button for your current fighting style to equip it during battle. The game will throw weapons at you all of the time so don't worry about saving them. If they break you'll get plenty of repair kits anyways.
3. Space: Enemies in this game don't follow movie rules. They won't attack one at a time. So create space between you and a group, pick them off one at a time.
4. Auras: When an enemy glows a particular aura (purple, red, blue, yellow); the damage from the fighting style that matches the color will increase against them.
5. Heat Actions: They're flashy, they're cool, and they make you look like a total badass. However, try not to spam the same heat action on an enemy as the damage has diminishing returns. Meaning, the same heat action on the same enemy will cause less damage after the first time you use it on them. The game subtly punishes you for being a boring one note spammer and rewards you for using the moves you're steadily unlocking as you play. If you hadn't prioritized them yet, aim for the style upgrades titled "Essence of Extreme..." so you can interrupt bosses who are slumped and refilling their health. You can interrupt them via other means, but the matching style Heat Action will cause more damage the first time.
