Should I replay Kiwami before moving onto K2?
First off I don't mean to rant about Kiwami, I understand its basically an old experimental PS2 game that is much less developed than the future titles, and it is good for what it is. Anyhow:

I played Kiwami about 2 years ago and enjoyed it, but not enough for it to have much an impact on me. I just finished 0 and it was much different, I enjoyed the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of it and finished all the side quests (minus the Amon's) and racked up about 85 hours. I've booted up Kiwami to replay and so far its....not as great. Not even talking about mechanics or anything, I can immediately tell the quality difference in the writing and just about everything. Majima's character shift is jarring, and so on.

The main reason I wanted to replay it was to see the references to 0 (Shinji was immediately a nice touch I forgot about), clear up my foggy memories of the story (though I hear K2 has a recap for this anyway), and see the sub stories I missed since I didnt do many on my original run (I hear the sub stories in this will be referenced down the line so I dont want to miss out). But I honestly dont really "feel" the story after 0, And theres some other things I remember that I just dont want to go through again in Kiwami (a few cheap boss fights for example). Will I be missing much in terms of the sub stories if I dont do them? Should I try find a premium adventure save to do them in? or will I be fine if I just watch a recap and move onto Kiwami 2? Thanks in advance

There isnt a HUGE impact that kiwami had that impacted k2 apart from the events of the end of kiwami impacting the tojo's reputation and how all other clans are seeing them, you also know how terada got appointed new chairman which is pretty important for k2 as youll see. so replaying isnt really needed
also one thing to mention is that in k2 one of the first scenes is you at the grave of your loved ones and there is a prompt to "flashback" the scenes of kiwami with kiryu narrating so really replaying isnt worth it

The flashbacks mentioned above should cover you, one of them did cover a sub-story I hadn't done, which seemed important as it relates to a character you come across very early in 2. I went back and played that sub-story thinking I'd missed something I really shouldn't have, only it turned out to be very short and didn't really add anything, it certainly didn't explain why they become what they do.
As I don't wish to spoil a big early plot pointit's about the widow of the boss killed at the start of Kawami 1 who becomes head of the clan after Terada is killed

As far as sub stories go, do many return later? I hear throughout the series a lot of them reoccur so thats probably the main thing I'm worried about missing. With Kiwami's main story I've just lost a few character names and some of its plot details (which as you say don't really have much impact)

Some do return like the guy that tried to jump off the building in kiwami 1 but its not integral to the main story since its just a fun little substory to do, i would assume you have done all kiwami 1 substories before moving onto k2
many new characters get introduced in k2 and so their story is shown alot with kiryu such as goda and kaoru. most of the k1 characters died anyways apart from a few but the memorable ones are still in k2 like the owners of stardust and the florist
