Why the ♥♥♥♥ is Majima so different to Yakuza 0

I don't know, but there is a chapter of Majima in Kiwami 2 I think. Never played it but maybe it explains somehting.

So basically, it's vaguely explained at the end of 0 where Majima decides that the best people he met throughout Yakuza 0 were ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy people, and that we wants to live life to the fullest like them. The psycho crazy guy act is a persona on-top of him being serious which he can be when he wants to.

He changed because of his interactions with people around him during Yakuza 0 like Nishitani and Makoto. Nishitani acted all crazy but really he was a serious person. Its possible that Majima saw that and thought that acting that way had its advantages so he decided to adopt the persona for himself. Also willing to go up against Patriarch Dojima all alone if they mess with Makoto would be pretty crazy wouldnt you say? Sagawa thinks so.


It throws people off when the way someone acts on the inside is different from the way that they act on the outside. A serious person acting stupid, dumb or in this case crazy. There are lots of people out there who treat others differently if they are dumb or crazy or whatever. In most cases, probably Majimas case, he acts crazy because he wants the other person to underestimate him, to lower their guard or to treat him like a lesser threat than he really is.

Of course, there's always going to be that group of beginners that don't understand that:
1) Majima always has his crazy Mad Dog persona in the series.
2) Yakuza 0 (2015) was released way after the original Yakuza (2005) and the story was pretty much unchanged in Kiwami (2016).

There's nothing wrong with living a little crazy, especially after being held captive and manipulated for a year, right?

I imagine something happens over the following 7 years between 0 and 1 that explains the change... we will never know.

Exactly; "Mad dog of Shimano" is just a role, a character, not a real personality.

Exactrly; "Mad dog of Shimano" is just a role, a character, not a real personality.

A 'role' where he beats the living ♥♥♥♥ out of someone and tries to kill them (the thug who attacks Kiryu in 1 outside Serena).

Yeah that isn't what Y0 Majima would do..

You can consider his "Mad Dog" persona to be a tribute to Homare Nishitani.

You forgot that enemies have manga magazines on their body so bullets are ineffective.
