It's a very slow, mainly text based, game. I don't really know what's going on. You send one group of warriors who may bring back food, or something random might happen. Most of the time they get lost or die so you have to start over. The pace of the game is very slow and the events that happen aren't very interesting.

I waited one year to post this review hoping that it would receive some updates & improvements.

• Developer replied to my discussion posts in a pretty timely fashion.

• No tutorial or in depth information given until i posted to ask.
  
  
• 30+ hours, 9 of 10 random events I get didn't appear to progress to any of the story arcs.
  
  
• Sending Orcs out for a task means all there is to do is click the axe to end turn to progress to the next day.
  
  
• 8 story based achievements seem equally random to obtain.
  
  
• Lack of inventory drops. Obtaining a tribal shaman & a tribal totem at the same time for the achievements feel like impossible odds.
  
  
• Events & choices seem repetitive or pointless making most of my games very boring.
  
  
• Run out of food & it becomes a boring clickmare of going to the next day hoping you will get a random event yielding food before all your orcs are gone &/or reputation has tanked.
  
  
• Never been able to increase reputation.
  
  
• No restart. Need to exit completely if you don't want to wait for the random 1% chance at finding meat before your reputation or orcs is depleted.

Looked fun when I initially saw & purchased it. Didn't imagine it was going to be a game that required 15-25 bad games before getting 1 good game that yields enough *positive events to keep going.
*Positive events such as, gain food, gain orcs, gain additional items needed to get to different story arcs.

Over all felt like the mechanics themselves are lacking. Or maybe just the gains. Waiting for something positive to happen to help you progress has been painful.


You have a tribe of Orcs & their lives depend on your decisions & actions. There are 5 tasks to send your orcs on. Sounded neat on paper & I wanted to like this but everything including your survival seems random. Majority of the games I played resulted in

• Orcs on tasks that don't make it back to camp.
  
• Running out of meat & dragging out my starving tribe & dwindling reputation hoping for a random event that they found meat.
  
• Ultimately, failing reputation from lack of food.

Unfortunately as a whole Fairyland: Chronicle lacks the events to keep the game positive or interesting in my opinion.


Missions/Tasks
The map has tasks labeled as Chump, Weak, Biting which don't translate well to what their purpose was. Dev was nice enough to elaborate in discussion. I had hoped having that would propel the game forward or even lead me to actually get some of the various story arcs which are also achievements but nope. I just kept hitting the same dead end results.

Weak = Village
The village is very poorly protected. But you can still lose a pair of soldiers. The more soldiers there send, the higher the chance of success & the better the result. There you can get food, slaves & all sorts of things like a barrel of beer or a chest of gold.

Chump = Troll
Lair of a huge troll. It is impossible to defeat a small detachment in battle. You have to send 1 warrior to him & hope for luck. There you can get valuables from the corpses of less successful visitors. One of them is a totem, which is necessary for the search for another tribe. Visiting a troll can provoke him to visit your tribe.

Biting = Castle
Well fortified city. The chances of winning are small. Iron weapons & many warriors increase the likelihood of success. You can get some useful items.

Food = Hunting
Witches = Fairies

Random events
From my experience they are less than exciting & usually harm or upset my tribe. If people achieved the associated achievements legit then kudos to them, because I have yet to see anything remotely close to any of them based off the information the developer shared.

Some of the ones I see the most:
- "A bug is crawling on the wall", Eat or Let Be.
- Cave is leaking, Repair it.
- Found a mushroom, Eat or Pass - Pass doesn't seem to do anything & eating it makes you sick. If you didn't start with a healing herb or were lucky enough to get one, its another loss.

Developer said , "the testers complained about too frequent events that interfere with planning."
If that is true, the fix must have been taking it from 90% to 5%. Based on the amount of harmful or pointless events that don't propel game play or experience.

Food, or rather lack of
Majority of games I play I run out of food so in the interim I won't be able to dispatch any Orcs making the game even more boring. Then you click the Axe to end turn to next day & pray for a miracle that its you found food! Instead reputation just dwindles or Orcs die off until 'End'. Then new game, try again. This is painfully slow & boring.

Inventory
Inventory items are questionable & feel rare. ]
You start with Fork/Spoon to control how much to feed your tribe, and 1 random other item that may be usable, or may randomly trigger an event or help with another if you get the other needed items.
Developer mentioned for 4 of the achievements you need 2 items, tribal shaman & a tribal totem, in all my plays never gotten them both in the same game.

Achievements
8 of the achievements seem epic in rarity if they are obtainable. From my experience, lack of positive random events to keep the game moving forward.

More often than not I'm clicking 'Let it be.' just to continue the game with nothing actually seeming to happen. A nothing event? In the time played even with developer's replies, I don't see any different paths to branch to other routes & obtain achievements.

1. Conquest: Conquer any tribe of orcs.
   
2. BadaBoom!: Launch photon torpedo.
   
3. Shame tribe: Orcs are friends with people.
   
4. Tribal Union: Make an alliance with any tribe of orcs.
   
   To obtain these achievements, you need to send the detachment to look for other tribes. You will need a tribal shaman & a tribal totem. The totem can be obtained by sending a detachment to the troll's lair (Task: Biting). A shaman can be obtained through a random event or by sending a detachment to the fairy forest (Task:Witches).
   
   ! Only had enough food/Orcs to trigger a tribal shaman OR a tribal totem but never both.
   
   
5. Defeated Knight: Defeat Lady Annette.
   Raid the castle (Task: Biting) & steal the daughter of the lord. After Lady Annette goes to rescue her, try to defeat her.
   
   ! Never gotten any event text regarding any of these things to rescue or defeat anyone.
   
   
6. Powerful ally: An alliance with a mountain troll.
   Scout the troll's lair (Task: Chump). After this, a random event will appear. The troll will come to you. He needs to be fed & he will leave. After several such events, the troll will live in the tribe.
   
   ! No matter how many dispatches to the troll, never seen an event regarding it.
   
   
7. Great Victory: Defeat the mountain troll. Don't feed the troll but defeat it. It's complicated. You will need many warriors & iron weapons.
   
   ! Never triggered text with a troll. I did get an iron weapon, & I have gotten a decent army of orcs, BUT never had both in the same game.
   
   
8. Fairy Magic: An alliance with the fairies.
   Help the fairies during random events. This will enhance your reputation. The raids in the forest of fairies (Task: Witches) reduce your reputation. When the reputation is fairly high, fairies will offer an alliance.
   
   ! I have never seen ANY event text regarding Fairies or witches.

This is a new chapter in the Fairyland series. In this game, you guide an orc tribe on the sidelines of the Fairy-Human War. Technically, a new tribe, since you were formed by those who escaped a prisoner/slave camp after a dryad raid freed a orcess... who slew the dryad leader and drank its blood.

Now you have to manage this tribe and how it will relate to those around it. As well as how it will survive.
