Disappointing game mechanics
I had an "ok" time with the game (exploring the house was fun), but my main criticism would be the "hold your breath" mechanics which is almost pointless. I only had to use it when going through the purple mist, or the dust, or near a fireplace. It has no meaning whatsoever for regular enemy encounters.
Besides in reality you wouldn't have to hold your hand before your mouth, I mean what's that supposed to alter? ^^
I think it would be great if a game forces you to close your eyes in order to lower your heart rate/not to panic or to pass out or something, so you can't see enemies for some time. But you hear them lurking around...

maybe breathing matters more on on highest difficulty or soemething? i played on normal I guess also also breathing seemed to do little in normaln encounters, and if it did, the game didnt show that in sufficient amount.
I didnt mind game mechanics tho as the overall tone set by the game was great in my eyes.

The game started out very nicely and interesting, but a couple of hours in I realized it was quite mediocre to bad, the stealth mechanics were not interesting nor engaging, they are more like an annoyance and serve to extend gameplay time. I almost could not bring myself to finish it, but I did. I will never play this gain though, and it has a ton of achievements that requires several replays, you have to be a masochist to endure that.

In fact I am thinking about removing the game from my library so it won't mess my completion statistics...

You're absolutely right! It became more and more tedious in the course of the game.

I want to add that I dislike the overall enemy behaviour. In most parts of the game the enemies are slow and unobservant, so you have to wait forever for being able to sneak around them.
But once they are alerted they stick to your *ss, they are fast all of a sudden, and they won't let go off you. It felt to me that in later parts of the game they are more nervous, and then of course you have the uncle who feels your presence through the whole floor.

So to me it started out slowly & tediously and ended up annoyingly.
