Visitors not moving in

I have 4 villagers already and I have 3 homes built for new visitors..I invited 3 from Oma's Inn and its been days and no one has come. Do I need to keep going farther in the game to progress? I thought if I had homes built and invited them it would be a day or 2 in game time. Am I missing something?

Some of the villagers that can be moved in are only available after reaching different parts in the storyline/Tutorial (the first part of a new game save). When you say that you have 4 villagers already and have invited 3 but no one has come, does that mean that you have already successfully moved 4 new villagers in that did not start in the village and that in addition to those 4 you have invited 3 more that never showed up in their home that you assigned them to? Or that you have moved in all of the villagers, have 3 empty houses, and no visitors are showing up at Oma's? If no one is showing up at Oma's, you can try checking at different times of day and on different days of the week and month. Some villagers only show up at certain times, if that helps.

I have the 3 characters from the beginning of the game but I've invited 3 or 4 from the inn.. the painter for example and a few others but none have come. I built 3 houses figuring they needed to be built before they arrived. I always have characters in Oma's shop to invite so that's not an issue. The last character that came was the boat guy that takes me to the island but he didn't need a house. I'm only on day 4 of summer so I don't know if I just need to keep progressing and then they will move in gradually. I saw a post that said something about needing town reputation to be at certain levels to get them to move in? What adds to your reputation? I'll just keep going and hopefully they will come.. lol

Have you already gone to each completed empty house and assigned a villager to it? I'm trying to remember what all of the steps are...

No..it won't let me assign anyone.. white sign outside says..need mayor merits to unlock customization..I don't want to customize, I want villagers to move in .lol

Oh, hmm... That does seem weird... Maybe you may be at a point where you do have to progress more to be able to move in more villagers? Where are you in the mayor merits unlocking? If you've built 3 houses, you already have the real estate agent in town, right?
