Just to remind people for all PC gamers! DX9 is backwards compatible. DX10 and DX11 are NOT. If you have DX11 Card you can run DX10 games but only if you allow the game to install DX10. If you are win8 users, there are couple things you must first do before playing any games.

1) Activate .net Framework 3.5. Windows 8 comes package with both 3.5 and 4.0/4.5 but 3.5 is disabled. Follow the link to activate it: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx
2) Windows 8 comes prepackaged with DX11 and DX11.1 and some rare cases DX10 and DX9 is omitted. So, Goto your Just Cause 2 folder and find DXsetup.exe. Run it and complete the install. You may also find dxwebsetup.exe from official microsoft site.
3) Review your requirement. This game requires at least 2.4Ghz dual processor as a MINIMUM with one dedicated graphics card; meaning integrated graphics won't function well. IF YOU HAVE A LAPTOP, UNLESS IT IS A GAMING LAPTOP, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN THIS GAME WITH JUST INTEGRATED GRAPHICS.
4) If you have a laptop running Nvidia Optimus technology, follow these steps.

This solution is for laptops, considering the majority of users getting this error are using laptops as there is a conflict with Just Cause 2 and Nvidia Optimus technology.

PART 1: This is to get Just Cause 2 to launch

1. Right click Just Cause 2 in your Steam Library and select PROPERTIES.
2. Select LAUNCH OPTIONS, and type in "/dxadapter=0" without quotes.

PART 2: This is to get your graphics card to render the game (Steps 4-7)

1. Download Nvidia Inspector from: http://tinylink.net/nvidiainspector
2. Open Nvidia Inspector
3. Click the button to the right of DRIVER VERSION.
4. From the PROFILE menu, select JUST CAUSE 2.
5. Scroll down the window until you find: Shim Rendering Mode Options per application for Optimus.
6. Click the text to the right, scroll to the top of the dropdown, and select SHIM_RENDERING_OPTIONS_DEFAULT_RENDERING_MODE
7. Click APPLY CHANGES in the top right-hand corner.

Just Cause 2 OS compatibility:
Windows XP SP3 32Bit/64Bit - No
Windows Vista SP2 32Bit/64Bit - Yes
Windows 7 SP1 32Bit/64Bit - Yes
Windows 8 32Bit/64Bit - Yes

Known Error codes and problems:
Low FPS issue - Check your GPU, do you have dedicated card or an onboard video? If you have an onboard video then you are expected have FPS issue with this game. Just because you can run other games well on your computer, it does not mean other will also. Just Cause 2 uses Avalanche Engine 2.0 with Havok physics engine. This engine heavily relies on using GPU and APU for both graphical and physics calculations.

Error code 15 - This means the game tries to call Direct X protocols but your computer has no independent graphical processor to declare such protocols. Meaning you most likely trying to run this game using onboard graphics chipset. At the moment, there are no solution to this but to bypass the direct X adapter and allow the game to render the graphics using your CPU. This mean you'll get very poor FPS during game play.

Select LAUNCH OPTIONS, and type in "/dxadapter=0" without quotes

Error code 3 - The game is having difficulties displaying DX protocols because of monitor display issue. Run this game windowed. Or otherwise follow this thread but at your own risk. http://steamcommunity.com/app/8190/discussions/0/846940248808725592/#p2

Error code 2 - The game is declaring DX protocols but it cannot find any. You are missing DX10. Just because you are capable of running DX11 does not mean you can run DX10 without proper installation because DX11 is not backwards compatible with DX10. It requires seperate DX install. You can find DXinstall here:

If you are having further problem, please post your CPU brand, GPU (Graphical Processing Unit), RAM, Sound system, and your OS version 32bit/64bit.

Have you recently installed a Graphics card? I had this issue long long ago before when I forgot to turn off my integrated video through my bios to soley use the AGP graphics card.

I think I am having the same issue as Relkosh. I get the error code 3 unless i run the game with /dxadaptor=0, but when I do that, the game takes FOREVER to load. When it finally does load, the framerate is uber low... Is there any way to get the game to recognize the Nvidia card? I have a GT 635m (gaming laptop). I run BF3 on this thing so don't tell me it's because it's a laptop :P

I have the code: 3 error, but no matter what I try I can't seem to get it to work, using -windowed to launch it in windowed mode does not work, using /dxadapter=0 just runs it on the integrated graphics card which is useless.
