He lived his life lying and taking advantage. His writings contributed and still contributes to uphold and propagate racism post ww2 and up to this very day. HIs legacy is lackluster and he just can't accept that non-white civilizations can construct amazing buildings and projects of value. "It has to be aliens".
Builders of Egypt is a game that can educate uninformed gamers. We need more strategy and simulation games set in non-white civilizations. Especially in Africa.
Edit:
Erik has done great damage to African history.
It is entirely possible, if highly unlikely, that they were built by aliens. If you can prove them definitively wrong, the problem will be solved. That is how science works. Until then I highly doubt that any Africans were actually damaged by these theories.
I am working on a theory that it was giant stone cutting ants that built the pyramids. The pyramids are suspiciously like the little mounds of dirt that smaller ants make in my back yard. It's possible that the Nubians controlled the ants and used them to help build the pyramids?
Äh you know, that Egypt is a State on the continent "Africa"? Therefor you can say "African Pyramids".
- Reading up on more than just lower Egypt - really opens up a lot of understanding on how different Egyptian dynasties' "foreign relations" were.
What happens up river beyond the cataracts is essential to how lower Egypt functions and can function.
- Nice to hear that you include knowledge and information.
Sid Meier's Civilization and other good strategy games would not have been the same without the 'Civilipedias' and all the cool exciting background info!
As an absolute fan of Egyptian history I like the information given. BUT: I would certainly appreciate these texts more, if the speed of the narrator matched the speed of the text. I am sure, I am not the only one, listening and reading at the same time. Problem: Since one of them is always ahead of the other, it gets really annoying to follow, which, I imagine, is one of the reasons many just click on start. That's a pity, since you clearly put a lot of effort in compiling all the facts for a better understanding.
Maybe in a future update you can check the scroll speed of the text, at least in the original English version. Thank you.
We will definitely take this into consideration, thanks!
I also liked AC Origins in this regard, for example, it was an incredible voyage to get into some monuments and read real old texts in-game, and the exercise to guess the degradation state of the monuments and that time, already near being a Roman province was fantastic (the sphinx, some temples, the inside of pyramids at that time...all incredible) The discovery Tour can be a bit basic but really educational for kids and those who still don't know much about that era.
I would love to know about how this devs investigated and how they chose what to add to Builders of Egypt. It's really nice to know that they also love this part of history and take it seriously. Meanwhile i yet have to decide if i'm going to try the game now or better wait for some needed updates... Anyway good work
