Darktide BETA felt quite generic, grindy games designed more like a game as service. It hopes you to replay the same few lineal missions once and again (albeit increasing difficulty) and rewards you very slowly by letting you buy a new type weapon every few levels (most purchases are just the SAME weapon with different stats and some extra perk) Also therere are 4 classes, with their own special skill, but they are all "jack of al trades" and can play any of them on any situation. Missions are also very linear, wich doesn´t feels good in the sake of replayability
Space Hulk allows you to play with any weapon from the start, there is a grindy progression to boost your character, but is not "pushing" you to play to get "the next extra little bit of content" like a new type of weapon. Classes are also more specialized (healer, reviver, supressor...) The special missions with random objectives and the big, non-lineal maps allows to some planning and improvisation, and gives higher replayability imo.
I somewhat prefer SH over what was seen on Darktide beta just for the "gameplay loop". SH multiplayer feels fun by itself, Darktide tries to "hook you" artificially to play tons of hours by giving tiny extra bits of content (a new weapon, a new perk) every few levels, and because the missions doesn´t feels so repetitive (if playing special missions)
Anyway as said, they are different beasts. In SH you are a bulky, somehow slow, very heavy armored and heavy armed space marine and move somewhat tactically supressing areas, coverting the back while on Darktide you are a somehow more mobile an "frantic".
I feel like playing SH multiplayer just for fun, while Darktide somehow tries to hook you with an artificial slow progression based on giving you very little content at the start and promise you little extras if you persist on keep playing, either you are having great, low, or not fun at all.
Idk, I played straight the "enhanced edition" wich is displayed as a separated game. It has bugs like the map marker not updating properly when you set it or some random dc when online (hard to say if its games fault or just bad connection if host is far away, anyway its not quite common and you can just reconnect). Anything else than that it plays just fine (laptop, i7, RTX 2070)
Main problem may be find multiplayer games. Usually you can find 1-3 games if u refresh servers for 1 min. Better if you already have friends to hook with them.
I will probably get darktide eventually but what I don't like about that is how on rails it is compared to spacehulk where you can choose at least 3 or more paths to your objective using a map, can lock doors, hack them or break them down. That sort of thing.
Tried to reduce "head movement" (something like that) on options? Feels quite better.
-In options you can´t completely remove it (just set it to "low"), but maybe its posible to disable it by modifying the config.
I may play darktide if friends plays and ask me to join them, as its gonna be ""for free"" on Game Pass PC. But I wouldn´t spend $/€40 on it (by what I experienced and saw on the BETA, wich may or may not change significantly on release) - If it wasn´t a WH40K universe game, it would be "Generic coop vs hordes game number .....". It could be about anything, zombies, aliens, space vikings, rioters... but they set it on a WH40K background with "chaos cultist and creatures", and that alone may be its main selling point.
If they ever make another of these I pray the 2 above issues are fixed, then I would have thousands of hours on here.
