You kind of have to user certain weapons even when new ones become available. e.g. The Heavy Terminator is not great with ranged weapons so you have to put Claws or Hammer and Shield on him. The Apothecary has to use the Narthecium (needed for healing) so you won't be sticking weapons on him that remove the Narthecium.
For the player (Librarian) character the auto-cannon has too long of a spool up and the flamer is too short range. The Plasma cannon is good but using it or any heavy-weapon means you can't use the Force Sword which is needed because it shortens your Psyker skills cool-downs considerably. So I found myself sticking with the same load-outs mostly. Storm Bolter and Sword or Redemption and Sword. Haven't unlocked the axe/hammer or whatever it's called yet.
This game could've been a classic if the devs had worked on it a little longer. Worth it on sale.
You don't need to play Multiplayer to have access to essentially the same game mode in Singleplayer. You can play so-called "Special Missions" with the AI and progress your character classes in a number of ways. There is almost no customization for the AI Terminators unfortunately.
I dont hate you :P
