Questions from a newbie.
Hey I bought Space Hulk the other day and I am loving it. I'm about level 10 on Multiplayer but still quite new'ish. I have some quick questions for more experienced players or people who just know how the systems work.

(1) When selecting a class, at the bottom left, it has four different levels with perks. How do these work, I'm guessing I unlock them in a match as I play? Depending on my performance.

(2) The achievements mention unlocking class abilities on Multiplayer. What abilities? Also how?

(3) Does difficulty effect the XP gained at the end of Multiplayer or a Special Mission?

Thanks in advance if you have any answers. Hopefully it'll help others as well as me.
I hope to see some of you online soon!

there are two multiplayer modes: codex and vanilla.

in codex mode all weapons and skills of a class are unlocked from the beginning. you can only change class/weapons in the armory (starting room which you can revisit through the warp gates).

non-codex mode / vanilla has a leveling system, which resets after each map / team wipe. you have to level-up each class through killing stuff / healing to unlock class skills and weapons and you can change class and weapon on the fly. the game released with this system (instead of a permament progression system), but it seems to be not very popular.

the achievements are tied to this system. afaik you have level 8 as the max level you can reach to get the achievement. respawn timer are tied to your level (increasing per level). codex-mode sets you at max-level with long timers from the start.

I think higher diff settings give you more XP, but I never tested it to be sure. codex mode should give more XP over time too, till you reach max level, because enemy spawn rates are tied to this non-perma player level system.

Thanks for your reply Fosil, super helpful! I will have to try the non-codex version for that then! Thanks for all your answers :)

(3) Higher difficulty gives more XP. Longer time on map gives more XP.
XP earned in same conditions in depend of difficulty can be like this (approximately, and you must collect all 4-6 relics on map):
Easy ~ 2000-3000
Normal ~ 3000-5000
Hard ~ 5000-8000
Very hard ~ 12000-20000
And remember each relic in very hard gives 1000 XP instead of 500...

Thanks for your reply Rhamiel. Wow I did not think it would be so much XP. I am tempted to try it :). A shame that I wouldn't last a second on the higher difficulty!

If you wanna reach high levels quickly you should play in very hard mode. 1 hour of play = 1,3-1,5 levels. For example, 1 hour in easy mode =0.16 level.
I know guy who has played 90 hrs in easy mode)) His level 15... If he played in very hard his lvl could be ~130-140))

Yeah I definitely see what you mean, I've just played two Special Missions on No Mercy and I could see the difference in XP. Thanks for the advice Rhamiel.

(2) The achievements mention unlocking class abilities on Multiplayer. What abilities? Also how?

As mentioned you can only achieve, cough. the 'Achievements in multiplayer non codex games
Class abilities are the key binds for 1,2 and 3 plus extra weapons that class has and you only have to get to level 7 to make the Steam 'achievement'
You can jump into the gate anytime mid game with 'i' and change class or weapons
Going for these achievements is a long slog as even playing a single level is only going to get you to maybe level 4 or 5 at best so you have find a safe area and dig and rack up the kills

TIP - start out with Apothecary and get him to level 2 so he can self heal as a backup plan. Although each time you level up you get health fully restored you're going to be might p%^&ed if you get nerfed at level 6 - so if you do not think you can hold out until next level and full health switch to apo (press i) and hang on until self heal cool down can regen your health and then switch back to class going for the achievement

.... or find a very patient friend willing to do nothing other than heal you

Thanks for the great advice Woodcot3. Yes I've already completed the Apothecary class as I thought it would be the easiest, being able to heal yourslef and all. It did tend to slow right down as I hit level five and it took a while after that! I can imagine it being much harder to do on the other classes!
Woodcot3, do you know by any chance if your non-codex levels would rise faster on the harder difficulties? Or does that only affect the XP at the end?
Woodcot3 Nov 29, 2018 @ 5:24am
Apothecary is a good place to start and i found Assault was the hardest as melee only take a bit of getting used to
I am not 100% sure if harder difficulty levels speed up the progress but it stands to reason they would as generally in MP games the higher the difficulty the more enemies and harder they are to kill and for that you get more renown/XP

...however if you are solo'ing for Achievements it may be tough getting to a location you can dig in to when playing at the harder difficulty levels given you start out with only basic weapons and if your overall level is lowish then you will not have the benefit of any weapon, armour or perk upgrades either

I see, brilliant, thanks for all your tips/advice! I'd love to be able to do it but we'll see how it goes. If I do find that the difficulty affects it, I'll pop it in here incase anyone else ever asks this question :)
