How do you get Renown?

As title, how do you get it? I hear you get it after levelling up, but I did the first level of the campaign singleplayer, and completed it, but didn't appear to get any XP or any levels. So if the renown exclusively multiplayer?

MP or Special Missions offline. You gain it when you open Gifts of Valour. (those come from leveling)

Yeah, the campaign has its own separate progression, which is more than worth working through because SP librarian gets all sorts of awesome psy abilities that you can't use outside of the campaign.

Worth noting, all the renown upgrades (including weapon upgrades) only apply to the class with which you unlock them. It's not so bad ultimately but if you intend to play multiple classes it's definitely slow going at first, so you'll want to be careful with renown spending early on.

does the missions give very little renown? i feel like its taking awhile to get any renown.

Play at harder difficulty. You can get 20k+ XP for one good session at No Mercy for example.
That usually nets to ~7000 renown or so

I played a game in MP with chaplain as class and i had 24.7k renown before the session and after the session ended I had the same. Any help any1?

It seems that I only get renown when I lvl up.

thats correct, you only get it when you level up
