At 7000-8000 exp per completed campaign mission it's not that much, need about 3 successes per rank (to have a chance at 10k renown each time plus loot).
But honestly, I think its pretty balanced to give enough but not throwing it all after you.
What level are you? I'm level 20, and my friend is closing in on level 30. The gains aren't noticable until there's a significant gap.
My friend and I already ruled kills and medals out because he regularly plays Chaplain (low damage, no healing so almost always no medals) and I play Heavy/Assault, and he still earns way more Renown/level than I do. Kills and medals affect your XP gains, which I suppose in a way affects Renown since you'll be leveling faster, but it doesn't seem to affect how much Renown you get from your boxes.
Edit: I'm losing my ability to spell that word.
I dont plan on doing it right now but i will be doing it sooner rather than later thanks to the duplicates.
Already my Chaplain has Spear of Caliban, (auto plasma cannon) fully upgraded besides optics. (reliability, speed increase, ammo recharge speed increase, damage increase). I also have 30% more HP on all body parts perk and you can only equip one perk so I don't need any of the others, I got a skin for him leveling up, I upgraded my melee weapon which only has one upgrade slot, literally the only thing I have left to do is upgrade his armor and get cosmetics.
13hrs. I wasn't even playing mutiplayer that entire time as I had 2.5 missions of the storyline left on my save that i did as well so probably closer to half that like 7 hrs for all those upgrades. I also was just checking out the new system and not specifically trying to maximize EXP by grabbing all the relics.
I think the grind is very easy just looks intimidating.
