Renown Grind
So I am enjoying the heck out of the enhanced edition game for now, I was just wondering if other people are worried about the insane grind that is requied to unlock necessary perks and upgrades as well as of course the lovely skins and extra visual stuff. It seems somewhat arbitrary to only gain renown when actually gaining a level/leveling up rather than having it connected to general performance in a match/ relics collected/ difficulty etc. It just feels very lackluster to me and although I absolutly love everything else the developers added it just seems unnecessary to have all of these lovely game mechanics and visual upgrades locked away behind a grind wall. I am not saying remove it....god now, I want to play and feel rewarded when I unlock a new item/suite of armour/ perk etc. but maybe reduce the renown cost to make it a little more appealing.
Just wanted to see if other people feel similarly about this issue.

I'm up to needing about 15k exp per rank. Each time you open a Rewards of Valour there's a chance it will give you double Renown, so it can come in quicker than anticipated.

At 7000-8000 exp per completed campaign mission it's not that much, need about 3 successes per rank (to have a chance at 10k renown each time plus loot).

I do. The renown is way too slow for my liking. Personally I would probably have added something to earn renown besides leveling up(for example killing broodlords). It's also extraordinarily annoying no xp is earned if you or the host happens to leave early as missions tend to last pretty long.

Elite Dangerous made me quite tolerant to grinding^^
But honestly, I think its pretty balanced to give enough but not throwing it all after you.

You get more Renown for higher levels. My friend who is quite a bit higher level than me earns about 50% more Renown per level than I do.

He's probably getting more/higher medals and kills, from what I've observed my rank has done nothing for how much I get on its own.

You can always CheatEngine in a bunch of renown if you don't feel like grinding.

We already ruled that out.

What level are you? I'm level 20, and my friend is closing in on level 30. The gains aren't noticable until there's a significant gap.

My friend and I already ruled kills and medals out because he regularly plays Chaplain (low damage, no healing so almost always no medals) and I play Heavy/Assault, and he still earns way more Renown/level than I do. Kills and medals affect your XP gains, which I suppose in a way affects Renown since you'll be leveling faster, but it doesn't seem to affect how much Renown you get from your boxes.

20s, and my renown is predictably same as 10s. Are you sure he's not just rolling the double renown in his Gifts of Valour a lot?

think about how hard it is to get renown in the real world, you need to do great deeds! kill a Brood Lord solo!

Is this a mechanic that you can observer, where you don't get a drop but you get double Renown? Because I haven't heard about it until now.

I think a big complaint not addressed by devs is that when a Host leaves or disconnects everybody loses. They just need to give us the XP up ending of match either by completion or host disconnect. That would go a long way.

It's a mechanic when opening Gifts of Valour. In addition to the Renown you get, in addition to the random loot you get, you can pull extra Renown out. I've received as low as 100 and upwards of 5000 extra when it pops. It's clearly marked in the window when it happens.

Edit: I'm losing my ability to spell that word.

Honestly, if they made it easy to get tons of Renown, folks would kit out their preferred class(es) and then shelve the game again. This is likely designed this way to keep player numbers up.

I've played 13hrs so far.

Already my Chaplain has Spear of Caliban, (auto plasma cannon) fully upgraded besides optics. (reliability, speed increase, ammo recharge speed increase, damage increase). I also have 30% more HP on all body parts perk and you can only equip one perk so I don't need any of the others, I got a skin for him leveling up, I upgraded my melee weapon which only has one upgrade slot, literally the only thing I have left to do is upgrade his armor and get cosmetics.

13hrs. I wasn't even playing mutiplayer that entire time as I had 2.5 missions of the storyline left on my save that i did as well so probably closer to half that like 7 hrs for all those upgrades. I also was just checking out the new system and not specifically trying to maximize EXP by grabbing all the relics.

I think the grind is very easy just looks intimidating.
