are metal items worth it?
Ive been looking up guides, but they are about 3 years old and the wiki doesnt have direct stats of items. The videos I watched in the comments someone said they got a buff, but I was wondering if they got buffed enough to be worth the time to make. I hope to hear what tools you all use to survive this hell-scape

Well, metal items are cool, but probably heavier than others. I never use them anyway. If you feel like it you may want to craft metal armour, since once you wear it the weight is not added to your carried load and it's really sturdy. Remember that you can recycle your used tin cans, As for myself, as soon as I start a game I make a stone blade, which I use to get long sticks to make a bow and a weak spear, and I kill a bird or two by chucking stones. If you want to optimize weight, you should stick to a bone knife and bamboo bow and that's it. Axes are overrated (it's ridiculous but you can chop trees with a bone knife) and the only use for a spear is catching crabs. Even stingrays can be shot with arrows if water is really shallow, even if it's hard.

Too much trouble looking for iron to craft them with. Stick with lighter weighted tools, bone and stone. Easily crafted and there's more of it.

No they are not. Take way too much effort and resources to craft and they break just as easy.
I think the iron blade is lighter, but that's about it.

Iron arrows seem useless, if you headshot, a wooden arrow is good enough.

The metal armor is heavy, and not much better than bone armor.

While iron tools do a bit more damage, as in, it takes a chop less to fell a tree, I don't think they're all that much better. And it's harder to get by.

I use wood-based tools, as opposed to bamboo, as I can level them up more quickly. Like gf, I craft a stone blade asap & use it to chop a stick tree, etc.; once the blade is down to about 1%, I use it to craft a stone spear. Once I begin hunting (usually day one), I begin crafting bone armor, & switch to using a bone blade & spear. For the axe, I mostly stick to the one that calls for two stones.

Metal arrows will cause game to die more quickly if you fail to get a crit, so there's that. I've used them sometimes when I was forging anyway (ie, playing SoA). There's also a quest in SoA part 2 that I prefer to use metal armor to complete, but other than that, I stick to bone.

Admittedly, I'm not the type to "min-max" in this game where the weight of items is concerned. ^^ I mainly just use what's handy.

They're pretty end-game but thankfully not crazy game-breaking. Metal armor makes you a tank, weapons etc are better. In the end it's the final part of progression. I would like to see more incorporated in the future though.

You're more than capable with bone equipment but metal is just fun too lol.

Too many stones and sticks laying about to ever need to carry the extra weight.

For me the only reason is just for the challenge of it. One of my future plans is to start anew and (after the standard prep to just survive!) focus on trying to find all of the iron veins I can, just for fun.

Besides once our skills get high we can crunch just about anything using a few bamboo spears combined with a healthy meal and good armor. :)

metal armor is still the only useful regardless of it's weight. Also when worn the weight of the armor dont count at all.

i always make due with bone since i end up going Rambo on the tribals i always have 4 chests of bones lmao for armor and soup

bone tools/weapons are also great early game. in the default GH you can find machetes which are better DPS and you dont have to make them. but still unless you mod weight limits bone tools are still OP
