Also there are other materials which may be used to create an axe. Experimenting is part of the fun of the game.
Also note, as you craft more axes, their integrity increases with your skill. Picture if you will, your first axe attempt, perhaps the rope isn't quite tight, or the stone isn't sharpened at the right angle or you the stick you used is rotten instead of fresh cut. It breaks and you take what you've learned from your mistakes to create your next axe with more skill. This type of scenario is what the game is emulating.
Your crafting skill and weapon skills can be found on the light bulb tab of your notebook.
Hope this helps.
Last thought, no, in real life, rocks may not be everywhere just laying around. It depends entirely on the geological region you are living in. It's why landscaping companies make such a nice profit.
like DJEHMLI above lmfao who thinks stones are fossils
Based on this question and your statements (and all further statements after this) it's clear that this game is simply not suitable for you. You are impatient, inattentive and it seems that you don't like games where you need to do some work for your progress. So I'd suggest you look for another game which fits your expectations more than Green Hell does.

1) Your writing collapses into incoherent ranting, lacking grammar or punctuation.
Here are a few examples of punctuation ( . , ; - ).
I hope that these will help you to make yourself intelligible in an orderly way.
2) Writing whole sentences in capital letters is like screaming, so rude.
People will read your comments with more interest if you take these two points into account.
It's really hard to find stones in the immediate area you randomly start in. Like I spend a good 10-15 minutes trying to find stones. I swear it's the same with sticks too. I thought that this may be a deliberate measure by the devs as a way to slow us down from making an axe within 30 seconds of starting a new save? After that sticks and stones can be found everywhere and its easy.
Has anyone else noticed this?
To Mashinengewehr, sometimes I believe the 'spawn in' of the items in game which the user is able to interact with (sticks, stones, bones from the animal carcass, dead birds/frogs etc) is slightly behind the actual user spawn in. For instance as you are moving you may see stones/rocks or sticks just randomly drop from the sky.
Using an example, let's say you've completely cleared a small area of large and small sticks, you leave the cell, walk back in, still no respawn, leave the cell again for a slightly longer period of time, step back in, and depending on your view (underbrush blocking or standing on beach/clearing) you can sometimes see the new objects drop onto the ground or pop in right in front of you.
However, if you are spawning in an area with a cliff wall/cliff edge or shoreline within visual range and you still cannot find rocks, stones (or in caves, obsidian stones) within a cell (one gps click) of your spawn in area, I would report it as a bug and provide the developers your gps coordinates.
