How do I use tinder?

Built a campfire and hand drill but the game asked me to use leaves as tinder, simple enough. Placed them around the campfire where the dots suggested and used the drill, but there’s a dot underneath the drills and when I try to place more leaves on the dot they just glitch under the ground. I moved away from the campfire, tried planks, rope. Idk what I’m doing wrong

I have a video of me spamming everything in my backpack and putting it on that dot and nothing will fit in it. I cannot set this damn leaf pile ablaze

You have to download the app first, then you swipe left for the uglies and right on thots and hope for a match.

To answer your question, you need either dry leaves obtained from palm trees (the visibly dry fronds) or fiber obtained from herb plants by harvesting them. Then place these at the bottom of the hand drill.

Leaves? No you don't use leaves .
To get dry leaf cut down either a banana tree with dead leaves or get a birds next or just chop up palm tree leave the leaves eventualy they dry.
Also if your energy bar is too low he will run out of energy before it gets to the fire stage. Increase your energy levels to at least half full.

You can also use bird nests as tinder. And for example, you can harvest molernia and get something (can't recall the name) to make tinder

my problem was when i loaded into the tutorial there were no dry leaves whatsoever lmao
i quit and loaded it back up again thinking it was just a glitch with the hand drill mechanic not letting me put anything into the kindle position
then i saw dry leaves for the first time and everything worked out

In the tutorial I was never able to find dry leaves and certainly didn't know how to make them but birds nests are quite frequent, much more than in the main game. I'd say just under half of the gnarly logs on the ground have birds nests sitting on them.

The only way I found to make tinder in the main game was to Harvest molineria leaves. I had some dry leaves in my inventory but I don't know how they got there...thanks to this thread now I have an idea.

My dilemma...
When it comes to tinder I have used nests, and fibers.
The wiki says we can use dry leaves.

I have never been able to use dry leaves. Dry leaves never even show up in the tinder section of my backpack. I'll go back and try to pick and add them to my firestarter, it fruitless. Dry leaves seem useless to me.

Am I missing something here??

Beware of "cut leaves" that are not yet dried. ;)

When you harvest banana or plamtree leaves, you get cut leaves first, and then need to wait some time before it "spoil" into dry leaves.

If you don't want to wait, you can cut any medicinal plant, and harvest the leaves to get fibers. ;)

'small leaf pile' will, when it spoils, become 'dry leaf' that will remain in your main backpack storage as opposed to the firestarting flap.
After clearing foliage I dump the piles next to my fires so that they can spoil out in the open rather than using up space in my pack.

Updating as nobody answered the question and this was frustrating to figure out. Target the fire stick construction. Go into your inventory and USE your firestarter. At that point you can INSERT your tinder and you will start a fire in your hands (for some dumb reason) which you can then use to ignite your construction.

Actually I think USE ends up being EXPAND, which isn't helpful.

Aside from the fact that the question has been answered, I think that after 5 years OP has figured out how it works - or simply stopped playing.
