combat arts
I just started the game, got a skill point and unlocked combat arts. I dont mind spoilers, so i went to the wiki and looked at a couple of combat arts. What is the best combat art that doesnt cost spirit emblems?

You should unlock and complete passives at the very beginning of the game. For example, one of them will make you less noticeable, which can help you take 1 life from some bosses while killing them. That's my advice. Get all the passives you can get.

Btw, can i equip just one combat art or can i equip multiple?

You can equip one combat art at a time, and eventually one special move you can perform when backstabbing an enemy.

That will be somewhat situational. You can purchase Floating Passage pretty early from an NPC though, that will be a decent one for wandering around with. Someone made a pretty good guide here on Steam comprehensively comparing all the combat arts, you can reference that to get some more ideas.

I think it's worth mentioning, you can change combat art during combat if my memory serves me right, and the game pauses while you're in your "equipment/inventory/status/whatever" screen
you can only have one at a time but you can swap them out whenever, same goes for consumables or whatever you may want to use

high monk which is part of the temple scrolls is what i would recommend as the first special combat art (the ones with the flower on them that are at the end of the skill trees). it costs no sp and is an amazing move that punishes sweep attacks and is fantastic against smaller bosses that are hard to goomba stomp. the temple arts scroll also has passive buffs that give you more sen from enemies which i recommend to get both of the buffs as they make you grind less for money which is something you will do early game for upgraded gear but these buffs will lose value in the late game and new game plus as then regardless of passive buffs you will have a lot of money due to having bought less.

Literally none of the combat arts are bad, and you can swap them at will, since the inventory menu is a pause button. Some are great for cleaning house against large groups of trash, some are great for gap closing on bosses or gunners, and still others have thematic/story-driven purpose. There's no right answer. Literally all are good.

I love to use Double Ichimonji and Empowered Mortal Draw simply because they looks cool. Monk art for more skilled players because mixing it in attack pattern allows to break\prevent enemy counterattacks(wors on bosses too).

Word of advice, don't be like me and just get them willy nilly.

At first it seems that you get points too easily but soon it takes a very long time to get a point. The game does a very, very bad job of telling you this.

i am at guardian ape and i greatly prefer martial arts or latent skills. I stuck with double ichimonji, after beating the game ill probably switch to sakura dance to do some memories.

Ichiballs double is very nice, High Monk is very fancy (can be used for dodging attacks or filling the same role as double jumps on sweeps), I love Floating Passage ever since I got it randomly from first playthrough but the one I am using the most as of late has been the Nightjar Reversal. It's so good due to you being able to quickly close distance with enemy and also is a viable option to dodge attacks. I have used it to dodge the boss with the biggest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ odachi when he tries to attack me and he does not hit.

Does anyone get the spirit latent skills? There are a lot but they seem useless since you already have a lot of spirit, and you get them really easy to refill if you beat the grunts.
