I hope you do, because the unique approach to the fights in this game achieves something the souls games do not: It allows you to influence the dynamic of the fight. Not only can you punish your opponents for going all out on you by deflecting their attacks and build up poise damage, you can go on offense and pressure them as well and thus forcing them to react to your attacks and giving up on some attacks and combos they were trying to use. You feel like you're actually fighting them instead of merely reacting to what they do and get some hits in when they allow you to.
There is a downside to this approach, though: You have to play the game on it's own terms. You have to learn to deflect attacks, you have to use the Mikiri counter or you'll have a bad time, while the souls games shine with different approaches to a fight with specific character builds you can make and feel comfortable (or challenged) with.
That being said, giving this game another chance and feeling the satisfaction of having influence on the tides and flows of a great boss fight (and getting punished by failing to do so by being too aggressive or too passive) can be a rewarding experience that the souls games cannot provide you with.
Gave it another try this year and now I like it
Did you try Steam Input? Enable/disable that?
i cannot believe how much time i'm sinking into it and it just didnt click with me. i understand it but still can't comprehend it. my brain cannot figure this out. mikiri counter i jump. when i'm supposed to jump i mikiri counter.
I wish i could figure it out. seems like it so fun but how many more hours and guides do i need? or is it that i need to give up because it's just not for me. i have no clue.
1) Land on his feet and then do a charging attack. This is when you Mikri him.
2) Turn his back towards you and then do a 'sweeping' sword attack. This is when you jump on his head, stun him and then resume attacking him.
He *mostly* uses the 1st move on his first life and 2) on his second life. However, this is not always the case. Many times, he will use 2) on first life, if you force him into certain situations and vice versa. So be careful, do not always assume that just b/c you see the perilous symbol, that he will always use the same move, over and over again, based upon how many lives he has left.
