Demon of Hatred
Anyone else find this fight just meh? I completed Owl Prime and moved to Demon of Hatred and the fight is not fun. You can very easily see the fight is run, slashes, rotate around his left, more slashes. Phase 2 is just more of the same except him can punish you for being far away and Phase 3 his claw drag attack (attack that killed me the most) just gets extended.

I guess it just seems to be not "sekiro" or at the very least it lets you beat it in a not "sekiro" way.

Eh, I thought it was fun. Not that tough once you get the hang of it, but fun.

It's kind of the "Omega Weapon" of this game. It's an optional endurance/challenge boss. It also feels a bit out of place, because the boss is clearly a nod to soulsgames (really just Laurence from Bloodborne in particular), as he behaves like a soulsboss except with absurdly high health. It has weaknesses though, most notably Malcontent, and by that point you can buy unlimited confetti and sugar.

So all in all, i think Demon of Hatred is fine, if a little too spongy.

Also, don't worry, Elden Ring in turn added an optional, super steroid boss that acts like a Sekiro boss except you can't deflect and aren't as agile, with one undodgeable move if you're too close and it heals a flat amount every time it lands a hit even if you block. The universe is perfectly balanced. If you haven't played ER yet, you should be looking forward to that. ;)

I agree on the sponge part of him. That was something I picked up after noticing the method to beat him "man this is going to be unnecessarily long" I have tended to avoid using prosthetics or buff items as they don't help me learn the boss and I am just burning resources every time I don't win. I despise "souls" buffing items sugars and confetti fall into that category. I really dislike finagling with the d-pad for stuff that isn't dynamic such as atk go up, resist go up etc.

Nah ER is far too much like a souls game for me to want to play.

Well I'm glad you enjoyed it.

This boss is really out of place in sekiro. I never like fighting him.
I love demon of hatred personally, while they're definitely not standard I don't really think they feel any more out of place as Gyoubu (horse guy)
I do think their difficulty is a bit of a mess, they go from seemingly impossible to doable with your eyes closed rather quickly instead of being a fair challenge, they felt like they spent all their time on either extreme but that's most fromsoft bosses in general imo

I also disliked the Demon of Hatred. But I think the thing with Sekiro is that there really is no one true "Sekiro way". Some bosses are just different and are best approached in a different way.

My first playthrough, I did a lot of positioning and evasive maneuvers instead of parrying for the first half of the game, and it worked much better on some enemies than others (e.g. the ogre guys, but not so great for sweeping samurai). But then some mini-bosses really just need the parrying, like the claw guys or the one samurai before Genichiro. On the other hand, some of the bigger guys are awkward to block/parry because it hits your posture hard, so evasive maneuvers followed by attacks to their back work well.

I am starting to piece more and more of that together. Bosses that lean towards evasive positioning give me a lot of trouble minus DoH. Genichiro is probably the peak for me as it does the perfect flow means a kill in what seems like 60 seconds. I find Great Shinobi Owl to be far and away the most difficult and frustrating boss; his formula and solution just doesn't mesh well with me.

I do find Gyoubu out of place he is just the small early game DoH to me. You can beat on him in a circular rotating fashion and then he just runs off which drags things out.

Both flavors of Owl went down pretty easily for me. I found that my sometimes bad habit of dodging into him and attacking aggressively worked pretty well to counter some of his moves. And being aggressive tended to land more hits on Owl during various animations than other bosses that were more likely to deflect attacks.

I don't think Gyobu is out of place at all. In fact he is an awesome boss. You just gotta parry him. You can also use your firecrackers to make the fight a bit easier but it is not necessary at all. And when he runs away, use your grapple hook to close the distance.
I agree DOH is spongy but you can use consumables to make the fight go a bit faster. He is definitely more of a souls boss than a sekiro boss but Wolf is very agile and can deal with him. But I do understand that at this point in the game, I'd want more of a proper sekiro boss than a souls boss. Still he is a really good boss. You just gotta be a bit more patient during that fight.

Yeah that is my assessment just that I don't have the dodge into him habit. He really makes me feel it when I don't counter slash fast enough. So far he is the most difficult while I think Owl Father and Genichiro are my favorites.

Well I am glad Gyoubu and DoH have fans.

The only boss in the game I didn't like at all. He just feels so out of place.

Just like the entire game: Block block block - Acrobatic Attacks , repeat.
