Can't get past the ogre even with the Flame Vent Prosthetic
Any tips? I'm really close to giving up on this game, even though it's really good.

I think I just need to quit the game tbh, my reaction time is too ♥♥♥♥ do deflect and dodge dangerous attacks that can't be deflected.

The part you'll want to see most is after 2:05.
(If you dont want to spoil a future boss, don't watch past 3:00)

TL:DR
Grabs have 4 different types:
Sweep grabs (Jump to avoid)
Dodgeable grabs (Dodge to avoid)
Parry/Weapon grabs (Can be parried like a normal attack, or dodged)
Mikiri grabs (Technically its just a thrust attack but it grabs the player if not Mikiri'd)

All of chained Ogre's grabs are "Dodgeable" grabs, meaning that they can't hit you if you're in the middle of a dodge, (preferably the forward dodge, as it keeps you invincible the longest).
This means you can stay in his face and keep attacking as long as you're prepared to dodge the grab, rather than sprinting around for small openings.

Keep practicing, trial and error, eventually you'll get it.

Until you learn his moves you just gotta do hit and run attacks. Deflecting for posture damage barely does anything, but stunning/burning him with flame barrel and oil helps, as does buffing yourself with, for example, attack up sugars.

I had a really tough time with this guy too. In the end once I got the flame barrel I just threw oil at him then use the flame barrel (you gotta be real close for it to work). It sets him on fire and lets you get 4ish hits on him while he's burning. Rinse repeat until he dies.

U can always be a ♥♥♥♥♥ with a mini bosses just make them follow you, and when they lose aggro just backstab them
Tip nobody seems to say outright but is totally true: When you're anticipating an attack to parry, spam the block button. Worst case scenario is you end up blocking. Best case is you end up parrying despite the fact that you messed up the timing. But don't randomly spam. It rarely works. Do the LT spam as an insurance policy in case you mess up your timing attempt.

Watch a guide online. Yes, listen to their strategy. But you can be the world's best tactician and lose if you don't know the boss' moves.

Study how they handle themselves in the fight. Pay careful attention to the telegraphs you see in the video and how they respond to them. Also note positioning and spacing. All bosses have move-sets and their bias towards certain ones changes based on how far away you are. Some moves are much easier to handle than others.

The unfortunate truth is that the game requires you to hone your reflexes and focus. While I can't speak on behalf of everyone, I was getting stomped for +10 hours and thought that I would never get better. I just beat the final boss and I think this is the best game I have ever played.

trying to parry ogre is a stupid tactic unless you're trying to be parry god, he is one of the health kill boss

Carefully point out where I explain how to very specifically fight the ogre, as opposed to general advice.

I always sprint around him. His attacks will miss (unless I run straight into them), then I just wack him a few times. I don't think I've ever died to him (NG+3), usually it's a first-time kill.
JayOfLegend Sep 15, 2020 @ 5:22pm
Take time to learn his attacks, and understand when you can/can't greed hits. Understand spacing of how to dodge his two grabs, and learn the moves you can deflect/block (his kicks, and elbow drop)
JayOfLegend Sep 15, 2020 @ 5:23pm
Trust me, learning how to overcome challenges in this game is worthwhile (just beat the final boss a few minutes ago after 30+ tries)

ogre has huge lag on his attacks so he's ez, run around outside attack range, wiggle near his attack range to bait him to use attacks, dodge out when he uses the attack, then dodge back in to smack him, rinse repeat

Thanks for the Help everyone, I think I will give him another shot tonight after watching some videos about that Ogre. Prior to fighting him, I spent like 30 minutes practicing with that undead guy, but it was not enough for the ogre since he has his own moves, maybe I just gotta study them some more.

You can deflect some grabs? Why doesn't the game tell you this? This trivializes stuff like snake eye's!
