Finished the game this morning. My thoughts on it -
So it's obviously fantastic. It's one of the most fun FromSoft games IMO. It just feels good to play and master. I love the more, the combat, the movement. It's all really great. Idk if I like it more than Bloodborne but it's up there for me.

I think it's difficulty is the most fair of Souls games but I also think the Internet has vastly overblown it. I don't use cheese straws on bosses and can say most aren't too bad (and I suck at parrying prior to Lies of P which I played right before this). I think people need to lay off the "Hardest Souls ever" but then again I never over leveled in other souls games so idk.

Hardest boss to me was Owl (Father). Took the most tries but honestly it's one of my favorites now. Isshin was... Not hard. Maybe 8 tries but it's mostly cause I was doing dumb stuff. Great fight but he's a pushover. And then Demon of Hatred is super easy cause I get to go back to dodging and that's my bread and butter. Think I did him on the second try.

Overall though fantastic game, glad I decided to play through after putting it off for years and years.

Congrats, my friend! you beat one of the greatest games of all time!
I had problems with lady butterfly, demon of hatred and isshin ashina. The rest was ok.
You should try Gauntlet of Strenght now, a boss rush mode that is super challenging, I bet you'll enjoy.

I think this happened due to the culture of online game reviews. It's a competition to post the first video to get views, so all these content creators rushed to publish before they had mastered the basic mechanics. Remember how hard parrying felt to you at the start? Lots of people were given the idea that that was an accurate reflection of the difficulty for the entire games which is very misleading. Then lots of people tried the game, hit that wall, and just gave up.

Fair point.

It's absolutely impossible to judge objective difficulty.

Sure, Sekiro may be harder when compared relatively with DS1, for example. That is to say, put them next to each other and give them to someone who has never played any computer game; he will say that Sekiro is harder.

But you as player have acquired so much more knowledge and build up so much muscle memory when starting up Sekiro ( compared to prior games ) that it may be entirely possible that Sekiro to you feels easier than DS1 did all those years back when you started out with these games.

Likewise, if you have beaten DS3 15 times, but never played Sekiro - of course Sekiro will feel harder to you than the 16th playthrough of DS3.

Throughout the years the game speed increased vastly, bosses' capabilities increased vastly - all to keep up with the evolving skill level of the playerbase, to provide them with similar difficulty experiences every game.

Manus was once the pinnacle of difficulty, by now he won't even crack any attempted '25 hardest bosses in Souls' list. The Fume Knight felt unbeatable once. The Nameless King was the OG of difficulty for an entire year, striking fear in the hearts of players in the exact same way Malenia does now.

All of this leads to one simple truth: The hardest Souls game is always your first Souls game. If you clicked, and this can happen in any of their games at any point in time, you will have clicked for 95% of the FROM content.

The irony here is great.
