Hey Vargas, nice to see a familiar face(from Elden Ring community)

Yes, Genichiro loves it when you are not attacking him in the face, because he frequently chooses to backdash into an arrow combo, which can be defeated by attacking his face.

The pattern for forcing a favorable attack sequence from him is usually to press attack the moment you hear him block the attack but not deflect it. When he deflects an attack, if he doesn't reply with his own basic attack, he usually will go directly into his flurry attack sequence, or a backdash-bow-BS maneuver. It is recommended to keep immense pressure on him, but to dash out just out of reach of his flurry attack - any further and he goes Legolas on you.

I've found that by evading his initial two swings, he cancels the flurry sequence which follows if you choose to deflect them. His animation takes a moment to reset and he must rotate to face you afterwards, meaning you can get a prosthetic or combat art in during this time.

There are many attacks worth just dodging to get a few hits in. Reducing Vitality to 75% before focusing on deflections is a good idea due to the slower posture regain he'll have.

In phase two, he is even weaker to the pressure I recommended putting on him in phase 1. Yes, those lightning attacks are a thing, but are actually very easy to run under, forward towards his left side. Be sure not to sprint wide. Getting behind Genichiro is a very quick way to whittle his posture and vitality down, requiring less timing- and reaction-specific actions, more position- and memory-based tactics.

If you run in to deflect the final attack of his flurry in phase 2, he does an easily Mikiri'd thrust attack after a moment. Be sure not to spam the deflect/block button too often, or your "parry" window shrinks.

Lastly, Ichimonji combat art will restore the posture you may need to get past him.

I assume you mean on top of Ashina Castle

Ircc Genichiro 2nd phase is much easier due to him reusing a lot of his previous moveset his and lightning attacks, which properly parried, deal free posture dmg.

Whenever he uses lightning jump -> (when struck) attack once.
Don't try to 'charge" as ealier tutorial told you to.

After his last attack of floating passage (his longest combo) he'll use thrust during 2nd phase. It's right after the animation which plays after blocking combo's last attack.

Whenever he uses his jump slash(the one which leaves a cloud) he will either use Thrust or sweep - look for shine location. If it's on the left then he will use sweep
if it's in place where he struck the ground it's thrust
(I've noticed he starts using sweep only/more often in 2nd phase)

His other unblockable jump attack, which he often uses as gap closer, ( the one with A red Kanji) can be perfect deflected but it's much easier to just dodge.

Whenever you get a chance use your combat art:
you can't go wrong with Ichimonji and Ichimonji double for posture and sprit free use cost
Ashina Cross (if you rushed skill tree from Tengu) for much more dmg but it costs spirits

For some breathing room you can use fireworks but be wary when you use it.

As for combat arts use in general try not to use in "netural state" (two of you neither attacks) cuz 95% of the time enemy will starts his attack while you're in the middle of the combat art. The best time is whenever they're turned back to you or after certain attacks when they're recovering.

If you can get him to the 2nd phase it really shouldn't be a problem. Just stay close to him and jump + attack when he uses the lightning.

One thing that was a game changer for me was staying close and attacking him when ever he pulled out his bow, or paused in a combo.

This does a small amount of damage to you, unless using a certain combat art(Inner Geni reward) so I recommend the duck-and-swing method, like a Mortal Draw or some such as he's landing. If out of heals, it's important to know the no-damage strategy.
