Axe bug?

Someone can explain why my axe attacks don't break the assassins hats? used it 5 time at same enemy and only did posture damage. Did kill the bastard but I want to know if I missing something about how the axe work.

No, there is no axe bug as such. There are two types of these small enemies with hat. The way to distinguish them, well, as I see it, one has bigger hat and the other has smaller hat (usually red in colour if I remember correctly). The one with larger hat will be split open using the axe. The one with smaller hat, best prosthetic tool against them is the spear, i.e. attack them from a distance and use the spear to "draw" them towards you. Or use the shurikens but you will use quite a few before you can kill them.
