Better to come back to them once you have higher attack power and vit,at least 2 divine confetty and malcontent or anti-terror umbrella the anti appariation flame vent is good too.
Terror status cure ables also help.
As above if you run past the first headless there is a secret passage to the demon's bell.
Demon's bell(100% optional) makes the game enemies harder but enemies drop better or more loot.
(Only recommended once you are already got gud and want to farm in late game.
I used it in NG+1 to farm stuff.)
Just after the general is a broken bridge you can not pass that so jump down and activate the bonfire.
Then stealth past the big enemy and you will eventually reach the first mandatory boss.
