Stuck on the Hirata Estate Purple Ninja
I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with him aside from getting him to half vitality and it is making me upset.

You must defeat him using deflection. He is the best deflection coach in the game. And the item it guards is certainly not useless if you master its use. One of the best for me.

it's not necessary to beat him to loot what's behind him, just ignore him and after looting jump off a cliff (anyway that loot is useless)

Yea give advice to skip content instead learn how to play

That's how you can recognize skill issue
From miles away

As LightLance has pointed out, perfect parrying is key way to fight against this Purple ninja. What also can help is the combat art High monk. But the baseline is that you have to have the two passive combat arts that will increase posture damage to your opponent once you have parried his attack successfully, and also the combat art which will reduce damage to your posture against enemies that use swords.

this "content" will appear many times later in the game, and you blame for skill issue the wrong guy

He is bacially a mid / late game enemy. Dont feel bad for avoiding him for now. You will get there.

Fight without camera lock-on. His AI breaks when you're not targeting him.

I finally did it, I beat him :D

I found this guy almost impossible when I came across him originally, he was a total nightmare. You may come across a lot more of them later, but they’ll seem massively easier by then, and they’ll just seem quite predictable!

You can stealth kill him by alerting him, then falling down the hole and waiting for his alert status to reset then back stab him. Don't worry about not being able to beat him 1 on 1, there are plenty more like him later in the game.
